Motorcycle travel series by @velimir 'Zagorje' (Part #177)
What I find particularly interesting about that times is the level of craftsmanship and its quality. Objects which were made back then all exhibit enormous passion, great patience and outstanding level of knowledge. To me, it feels that the craftsmen were considered very high and paid very well for the unique, hand-made objects they created.
Form simple tables and chairs, to vases and all else, I find their dedication being enormous. It appears that they had so much time they spent enjoying themselves in their work that they didn't mind to enjoy in the creation of such objects.
I wonder why one cannot find such objects, today. Although the tools improved and people, in general, are able to pay more, nobody really cares to make objects of such value and quality. Well... I am sure there are superb and expensive craftsmen today, as well, but... When did you see something like this for sale in your local shop?
I am prone to believe that all these, and better may be manufactured today. Is it because these goods are, again, exclusive for the richest and are not advertised for the poor. So where is the progress? Why the sell people low-quality products looking awful and stops to work almost exactly just after the guarantee expired? Back then, and also not so that long ago, things were built to last and not to create extra large heaps of garbage all over the world.
The machines took over so "people may have more free time" Yeah right. Machines took over so that owners of factories producing low-quality goods could make more money while skilled people remained are vastly unemployed and on social benefits. instead of pursuing their passions. An average person does have "more free time", as it was promised. However, before people accepted robots taking over their working places, somebody forgot to mention that free time and nothing to do, was to be everything they'll have because of lack of means.
Old objects give me food for thought about many things. Imagine how many people admired this dress. Imagine all their destinies and everything that was happening to them during their lives. And when they left, all the objects they loved stayed behind as silent witnesses, reminding us that people surrounding us are to be highly valued, not things.

Wow. Weldone @velimir. I have been away and i sure missed your ever interesting posts. One thing i really love about you is that you are hardworking and really spend time generating original content. Most whales just sit at home and come up with anything that comes to their mind or wait for the news about the rise or fall of crypto then posts it for their audience who must have heard about it before then, but you jump on your amazing bike all day and go out there to share with us beautiful things and places some of us cant see or get to. So i appreciate all your effort and the cool SBD you earn from it makes me confident that hardwork will get me to your level one day. Haha.
Making something by hand has the benefit of tactility. When we literally physically interact with the tangible materials we make with, we sense the materials presence and attributes. We comprehend that i.e clay is soft, malleable, pliable and cool to the touch. We soon discover that clay dries, cracks, becomes hard and sticks to our hands revealing new dynamically evolving material feature as we work. Tactile interaction with materials facilitates an immersive experience that is free flowing. Working with materials directly forms a cyclical interactive partnership between the artist’s mind, hands and material. So i agree with you that macgines helped us have some free time, but to the detriment of the quality and time the old time makers gave to such piece. Anything done by a machine is programmed. So i guess why they are scarce and at the same time expensive is because the original creators really put a lot of effort and were not conceened just about the money but had it as a passion, looking for how to pass a message or story from their masterpiece. One can hardly see any of these, these days even if you see them, you will need to break your bank to acquire them. Development definitely has its ups and downs.

Evo primer za ovo... Moj otac je kamenorezac, to je ranije bio jako zahvalan zanat. Ali danas nije tako. Ljudi se radije opredeljuju za kineske gotove spomenike (ako pričamo samo o spomenicima, iako kamenorezac znači čovek koji obrađuje kamen, a ne izrađuje spomenike), koji su slabijeg kvaliteta, a ne za kvalitetnije, ručno obrađene, od proverenog materijala. Takvo vreme došlo.
da....to ti je to. nikoga više ne zanima kvaliteta ničega jer su navikli da traje godinu dvije...

yes... but that's so wrong. we should have super high-quality products lasting for a lifetime produced for litle money by now, and we don't... sad actually!
Craftsmen of old were mostly driven by passion for their craftsmanship, these were often translated into quality products, today however, those passions have been replaced by quest for monetary gains.

while reading this post and saw you mentioned about robots taking people job a some kind of a vision came into my mind that in the future all the jobs we have today will be taken by robots and the humans will be just sitting and making transaction on their digital assets.
Only an artist on that time will make the things like these things. though they are really beautiful.
hahahaha man... unfortunately bots will do the transactions, too...

If we don't enjoy what we do, we do not take the time to do it right, and our lack of love for our work shows through in the end result of our product.

I think the tide is changing nowadays. So it seems to me at least. I find that more and more people now look for more hand crafted quality pieces and not generic, cheap shit coming from a galaxy far, far away (sorry, I'm in Star Wars mode nowadays).
hehehe I hope its changing... but I cannot see the results. guess there is much in the Force, unseen! :D
Things were better in the ancient days as they had more time and life was generally slow.
But today in this fast moving world, everything is done at a rapid pace and eventually the quality is lost.
As you said the value is not there in most of today's art.
