A visit to Poland also means a journey into learning about mankinds darkest moment in history. The holocaust took over 6 million Jewish lives with some 17 million in total.

The most famous of these death camps were the Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II (Birkenau) and Auschwitz III (Monowitz).

The trip there is one of deep reflection as you ponder on the capacity for humanity to commit such evil. It is heavy and solemn. Especially when you stand at the site of mass murder, where up to 2000 people were murdered at a time.

You look at the beautiful trees and green fields, what horrors lie behind the beauty of nature.
The sun shines on your face, the warmth of the rays, comfort that which was void of.

It is an eerie place where over 1 million lives were taken, disregarded and their ashes tossed into the grassland swamp.

I went with no tour. There are many stories. But even in the silence and solitude, I felt the peace and the sorrow, the cries of the dead, the injustice, it weighs the heart down.

Let the world learn from war.
Let us not forget the sacrifices.

Yet humanity is tainted and I fear many wars to come...

If you have the opportunity to visit.
It's worth it.
