The OSPREY of Valencia Lakes, Tampa Bay area, Florida. Photos from the immediate area and description.
Welcome my Steemian friends to another series of photos taken with the past week here at Valencia Lakes, 25 mile south of Tampa, Fl. by my neighbor and friend Rich Behl. He is a fabulous photographer and he posts them almost weekly on our community website. You can see past posts of the Sand Hill Cranes we see regularly and a recent post of the anhinga (about two weeks ago).
The osprey, often called the seas hawk is about 24 inches long, weighs between 2-4 pounds, and can have a wing span of 5-6 feet!
The bird is a raptor and its diet is 99 percent fish. It can handle fish from 2 ounces to 4 lbs. Their vision is adaptable to be able to see underwater objects from the air. They are found almost worldwide along rivers and lakes and other fresh water inlets. IN Buddhism they are referred to as the "king of birds". Romans wrote of them and they are depicted in Chinese lore.
Have a great week!! UPVOTE and FOLLOW..thanks.
