Information for Tourist

Directives for Restricted Areas

Kachin State

(1) Both Package Tours and Foreign Independent Travellers (FIT) are allowed to travel to Myitkyina by plane or train.

(2) Both Package Tours and Foreign Independent Travellers are allowed to Hopin, Mohnyin and Mogaung by train and from there to Indawgyi by motor vehicle. For travel by motor vehicle to Hopin, Mohnyin, Mogaung areas. Prior permission is, required and only when permission is granted can travel be allowed.

(3) Both Package Tours and Foreign Independent Travellers (FIT) are allowed to travel to Jinghkrang, Myistone, Waingmaw and Washaung in the surrounding areas of Myitkyina.

(4) Only Package Tours are allowed to Putao by plane. For FITs who wish to travel to Putao, they must contact licensed travel agencies in Myanmar and travel only as a Package Tour.

(5) Travel as Package Tour to Khakaborazi located Putao, Naungmon and Pan Nam Din Townships require prior permission.

(6) For travel to Putao area as stated above, detail itinerary is to be submitted well advance to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

(7) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel to Bamaw by plane and by ship. For travel by motor vehicle, prior permission is required.

Shan State (Northern)

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel to Lashio through inland route mainland by plane, train and motor vehicle.

(2) For Package Tours travelling to Muse from the mainland, prior permission is required for travel by motor vehicle.

Shan State (Southern)

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by plane, train and motor vehicle through inland route to Inlay, Pindaya , Kalaw, Yat Sau areas and Mwedaw Kakku areas.

(2) For travel from Inlay to Nyaung Shwe Township, San Kar village, Hpe Kone area by motor boat, prior permission is required.

Shan State (Eastern)
(1) Package Tour and FIT are allowed to travel through inland route by plane to Kyaing Tong and Tachileik and by motor vehicle from Kyaing Tong to Tachileik.

Kayah State

(1) Travel to Loikaw by plane, to Loikaw by motor vehicle via Kalaw, Pin Laung and Hpe Kone routes require prior permission. Travel to areas outside Loikaw is not allowed.

Rakhine State

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel through inland route to Sittway, Mrauk Oo, Thandwe, Gwa and Taung Goke by plane motor vehicle and ship vessels.

(2) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by motor vehicle along Nga thaing kyaung-Gwa motor way to Pyay-Taung koke motorway to Ngapali.

(3) Prior permission is required for Package Tours and FITs travelling by motor vehicle and ship vessels to Am, Minn Pyar, Kyawk Taw areas ; via Kyawk taw to Paletwa Township in chin State.

(4) Prior permission is required for Package Tours and FITs travelling by motor vehicle and ship vessels to Pyay-Taung Koke-Pa Dann, Mrauk Oo Township Lay Myo Chaung area, and Chin Village in Pauk taw township.

Kayin State

(1) Prior permission is required for Package Tours and FITs travelling by motor vehicle and ship vessels to Hpa An-Tharminya-Hlaing Bwe-Kaukareik Townships.

Mon State

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by train, motor vehicle and ship vessels to Kyaik Htiyo-Kyaik Hto-Thaton-Kyaikmaraw-Thanbyuzayat and Kayikkami.

Tanintharyi Region

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by plane and ship vessels to Myeik, Dawei Maungmagan and Kawthaung.

(2) Allowed to travel with Entry Permit to Kawthaung area Salone Kyun, Mee Pya Kyun, Seik Lu Kyun, Thahtay Kyun, Sagaing Kyun and Minn Hla Kyun.

(3) Prior permission is required for Package Tour and FITs travelling by ship vessels to Koon Thi Kyun, Su Lar Nge Kyun, Pah Weh Kyun, La Nagn Kyun , Lampi Kyun, Ma Kyone Galet Kyun,Myauk Taw Win Kyun,Kyun Phee Lar,Nyaung Wee Kyun, Taung Taw Win Kyun, Kyun No.(115), Hlaing Goo Kyun, Nahnat Thi Kyun,Shwe Kyun, Myauk Nee Kyun, Thu Ye Gaung Kyun Su, Auk Kyun Ni nad Myin Kwar Kyun in Myeik, Dawei and Kawthaung regions.

Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magwe Region, Ayeyarwady Region

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by train, ship vessels and motor vehicles within Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magwe Region, Ayeyarwady Region.

Sagaing Region

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by motor vehicles to Alaungdaw Katthapa, Po Win Taung, Monywa, Twin Taung, Butalin, Kyauk Ka Yin Ma Pin and Ye Shan Twin areas,

(2) Package Tours and FITs are allowed by plane and ship vessels to Hkamti. Travelling outside of the city is not allowed.

(3) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by ship vessels to Homalin. Travelling out of the city is not allowed.

(4) Package Tours and FITs are allowed by plane to Kalay and travelling within the (4) mile area of the city is allowed.

(5) Prior permission is required for travels to Kalewa, Hpaung Pyin, Lahe, Lashi, Takathi, Minn Kin areas.

Chin State

(1) Prior permission is required for Package Tours and FITs travelling to Kanpelet, Natmataung (Mt. Victoria) Mindat, Aye Ywa Sakan (Camp) Yum Si (Camp) (8) mile Camp, Kennedy Taung, Falam, Haka. Travelling to other areas is not allowed.

River Crusing

(1) Package Tours and FITs are allowed to travel by ship vessels along the Ayeyarwady River routes of Mandaly-Bamaw-Mandaly, Mandalay-Bagan,Nyaung Oo-Mandalay, Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon tours, Delta areas and Mawlamyaing-Hpa An- Mawlamyaing tours.

Restricted Areas

(1) Travel to Mogoke is not allowed.

(2) Travel to Hpakant is not allowed.

(3) Tourists are not allowed to travel to Pyinmana, Lewe and Takone areas.

International Tourists Travelling through Border Check points

Kachin State

(1) Prior Permission is required for Visitors entering through Laizar checkpoint with Entry Permit and are allowed to travel only to Myitkyina only.

(2) Prior Permission is required for visitors entering through Kanpeikti Checkpoint with Entry Permit and are allowed to travel to Myitkyina only.

(3) Visitors entering through Lweji Checkpoint with Entry Permit are allowed to travel to Bamaw only.

Shan State (Northern)

(1) Visitors from China with entry permit and arranged as Package Tour with private travels and tours are allowed to travel by land through Muse, Namkham, Kyukoke, Kwan lone (Chin Shwe Haw, Ho Pan) Checkpoints to Lashio only.

Shan State (Eastern)

(1) Visitors form Thailand with Entry Permit are allowed to travel to Tachileik, Kyaing Tong and Mailar and to exit taking the same route.

(2) Visitors from China with Entry Permit are allowed to travel to Mai Lar, Kyaing Tong and Tachileik and to exit taking the same route.

(3) Visitors from Lao PDR with Entry Permit are allowed to travel to Wan Pone and Tachileik and to exit taking the same route.

International Tourists with valid visa entering through Border Checkpoints

(1) Prior permission is required for Package Tours and International Visitors holding valid passports and entry visas to enter through border entry and exit checkpoints, international airports, ports are allowed to change the gateways of exit.
