Introduction

Heya all, @martibis here with another edition of #traveldigest! Sorry, to be getting the last digests a bit later to you guys, real life has been increasingly hectic! Enjoy!

Travel Digest

For our first featured post @itchyfeetdonica takes us to Medellin, Colombia. As little as 25 years ago it was named the most dangerous city on earth. But now it's a paradise for visitors and expats alike. Comuna 13 is a densely populated, poor area in Medellin. In the past this was were gangs and drugs ran wild, but now it's slowly shaking of that image. After Pablo Escobar's death in 1993, several gangs tried to take over, causing gang wars and high murder rates. Eventually the military and police stepped in. A lot of effort has gone into improving the area, the first giant outdoor escalator was installed, free paint and tools were made available to the locals - making for some stunning murals and some libraries were started. Organized tours are going through the area now as well, bringing in some extra income. @itchyfeetdonica stays around the area until night falls, and generally felt safe about it. From the mountaintop, the view over the city is amazing, with all the city lights adding an amazing vibe to the place.

For our second featured post @poss takes us to Dobrca in Slovenia. After getting reminded by a friend about some amazing blueberries they had on a hike here one year prior, they decide to set out once again! This time in winter though, at temperatures going to -15 degrees C, brrrr! Thirty minutes into the hike, we get the first view over a frozen valley through the trees. A little further you'll find yourself hiking through a thick blanket of snow, with the clouds beneath you. After quite the hike we get shown around the summit, having some snow fun with the 1 meter deep snow! After this it's time to get the best reward of the day, the best blueberry struklji ever, found in a mountain hut nearby... Unfortunately, the mountain hut is out though, devastation strikes, haha! After eating a consolation apple pie it's time to hike back down and leave this wonderful place behind.

Last but not least we have @amikphoto who takes us to Amsterdam, Netherlands. On his walk around the channels and past the old houses, there is a lot to amaze. From the odor of weed, to the developed sex industry and the incredible number of bicycles. Unable to find his hotel, @amikphoto gets the feeling he got swindled somehow! But nothing could be further from the truth, the hotel is actually on a boat, which caused him to miss it at first! To end his post we get a good amount of beautiful pictures, that really capture the vibe of the city.
