Training along the Rhine River

I’m on my way home again towards the South where the Swiss mountains are awaiting me again and the flat land of the Netherlands seems miles and miles away again already. It is always a matter of what train is the most convenient to my schedule, and that will define which one that I will be taking. This means that sometimes I will end up in a little stop train that will stop at every station, but sometimes it also will mean that I end up in a high speed train, which is extremely convenient, but is also super boring, because most of the time it will be going through only tunnels.

So the whole beauty of having some sightseeing along the way, especially when the connectivity fails in the train, is sometimes forced upon you...Can you call it a bad thing? No of course that isn’t!

Today I was training through the valley where the Rhine River flows between the lush green mountains of the German wineries. I was here a lot of times earlier this year, and today for some reason the scenery seemed so super different! I know exactly what cause this and it is they change of colors that were present today. You see, normally the Rhine valley is always super cloudy because of the fog coming up out of the river, but above a certain temperature this doesn’t happen anymore. And what you get then is something that you can stare at for hours. People having a good time on the river, and perfect vineyards with white grapes which are just waiting to be plucked over the next couple of weeks/months. Now I get it as well why this is such a beautiful area for retired pensionados to go for bike rides here. Biking next to the river is relatively flat, and camp sights are around everywhere, which I also totally understand all of a sudden.

Also these river cruises, which I always had to laugh about a little bit seem super attractive all of a sudden. What the hell has happened to me? Is this the new form of getting older, or just about seeing things in perspective? Or maybe just both. Well, let me get back on sticking my nose against the window again to stare outside
