Lupin Watching at Lake Tekapo (New Zealand) vs. Sognefjord (Norway)

I think lupins are among the most beautiful flowers this planet has to offer. One of the world's most famous spots to see lupins is Lake Tekapo on the South Island of New Zealand.

On this 10 year old picture I'm sitting in an ocean of lupins at the shore of the lake. Up to this day, that place remains one of the most beautiful spots I remember visiting.

And yet, despite their beauty, lupins are not really everybody's darling. In fact, Lake Tekapo has seen a little bit of a lupin invasion. As this article describes, the non-native lupins are actually little bullies who are suppressing New Zealand's wildlife.

The same problem exists in Norway. The following picture I took at Sognefjord in Norway shows a field of wild lupins right next to the fjord.

Both places in Norway and New Zealand are incredibly beautiful and I could wander these fields of lupins for hours. The Norwegian municipality of Namsskogan that received 10,000 US Dollars to fight a war against lupins, will probably have a different opinion. The same goes for people with nut allergies, as they will likely be allergic agains lupins, too...
