RE: HITCHHIKING THROUGH CHINA'S DESERT // MEETING AMAZING PEOPLE

Wow! That sounds like it could have been quite a scary journey at times. I just had a look at the map of your entire trip. Did you try to choose countries which might be more welcoming of foreigners? I feel like some of the countries you passed near would be risky with some of the conflicts we've got going on at the moment.

Hey, thanks for the comment :) Actually throughout our whole journey back to Europe we never felt in danger at any point. Everybody we met (more than 300 vehicles) was super friendly and extremely helpful. A major reason we chose this route was down to the visa situations. The only countries we needed visas for were China, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Actually you will probably be surprised to hear that the Muslim countries were by far the most hospitable and our favourite countries to travel in contrary to popular belief.

Thanks again for reading :)

I see, that makes sense on the route. When I saw the map on your post you looked quite close to Afghanistan. Then there's been fighting in Ukraine, so I wondered if that was why you avoided them. I'm not entirely sure which of the countries you passed through are muslim. I only know the obvious ones, but I'm guessing a lot in that area are.

I have met some people from Kazakhstan and didn't realise how big it was. It looks like you had some long trips through there.

Yeah, each marker on the map is somewhere we slept on our journey. In Kazakhstan the distances are pretty big!

The Muslim countries were: Northwest China (not a country, but a region that wants independence), Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Albania (partly), Bosnia.

We just flew into Uzbekistan today :) Thanks for writing :)
