Indonesia #12: Diving in Komodo – Day 3

The last day of diving in Komodo was on. The first dive site on the day was Batu Bolong, also a very famous dive site in Komodo. Batu Bolong means "hole in the rock" and you can not see much more on the surface either. A rock in the water, which has a small hole in one place. What immediately catches the eye, however, are the incredibly strong currents left and right of the rock. Our Divemaster has pointed this out to us again: Stay close to the reef! No sooner had we seen an incredible spectacle than in the water: Never in my life have I seen so many fish in one bunch, absolutely brilliant! The currents on the reef were not too strong and as long as you always stay behind the divemaster, that's no problem either. Of all nine dives in Komodo we liked this the most.

The second dive was again at Manta Point. Most dive operators go to either Mauan or Manta Point almost every day of the Manta season (October to April), so we went there twice. But that was not too bad, because even if we have seen mantas both days before, this is always an incredible experience and will not be boring.

The third and last dive was Wainilu. This was offered as an alternative to a dragon walk on the island of Rinca to see Komodo dragons. Since we had planned a full day tour to the island of Komodo the next day, we chose the dive. This was a complete flop. There was almost nothing to see except a few seahorses.

Wieder einmal ein wunderschöner Sonnenuntergang im Komodo NP

Der letzte Tag Tauchen in Komodo stand an. Die erste Dive Site an dem Tag war Batu Bolong, ebenfalls ein sehr berühmter Tauchplatz in Komodo. Batu Bolong bedeutet so viel wie „Loch im Stein“ und viel mehr sieht man an der Oberfläche auch nicht. Ein Felsen im Wasser, welcher an einer Stelle ein kleines Loch hat. Was einem jedoch sofort ins Auge sticht, sind die unglaublich starken Strömungen links und rechts des Felsens. Darauf hat uns unser Divemaster nochmal explizit drauf hingewiesen: Bleibt nahe am Riff! Kaum im Wasser bot sich uns auch sofort ein unglaubliches Spektakel: Noch nie im Leben habe ich so viele Fische auf einem Haufen gesehen, absolut genial! Die Strömungen direkt am Riff waren nicht zu stark und solange man sich immer hinter seinem Divemaster befindet ist das auch alles kein Problem. Nur zu weit weg sollte man nicht tauchen, gegen die Strömungen links und rechts des Felsens kommt man nicht mehr an! Von allen neun Tauchgängen in Komodo hat uns dieser am besten gefallen.

Der zweite Tauchgang war wieder einmal am Manta Point. Von den meisten Tauchanbieter wird praktisch an jedem Tag der Manta Saison (von Oktober bis April) entweder Mauan oder Manta Point angefahren, sodass wir zweimal dort waren. Das war aber auch nicht weiter schlimm, denn auch wenn wir beide Tage davor schon Mantas gesehen haben, ist dies immer ein unglaubliches Erlebnis und wird nicht langweilig.

Der dritte und letzte Tauchgang war Wainilu. Dieser wurde als Alternative zu einem Landgang auf der Insel Rinca, um Komodo Warane anzusehen, angeboten. Da wir eine Ganztagestour auf die Insel Komodo am nächsten Tag geplant hatten, haben wir uns für den Tauchgang entschieden. Dieser war aber ein kompletter Flop. Dort gab es außer ein paar Seepferdchen fast nichts zu sehen.
