Impressions from Singapore // Eindrücke aus Singapur
Metropolis at the equator After we had to cancel sadly my planned visit to @redpalestino in Kuala Lumpur due to health reasons, Singapore was the last stop on our Asia trip. The welcome in the arrival hall of the airport was, climatically speaking, rather frosty. Quite in contrast to the tropical humid air that struck us in the open air. Ideal conditions to catch a cold if you are not used to it.
Metropole am Äquator Nachdem wir den geplanten Besuch bei @redpalestino in Kuala Lumpur aus gesundheitlichen Gründen leider absagen mussten, war Singapur die letzte Station auf unserer Asienreise. Der Empfang in der Ankunftshalles des Flughafens war, klimatisch gesehen, eher frostig. Ganz im Gegensatz zur tropisch-feuchten Luft, die uns im Freien entgegen schlug. Ideale Bedingungen um sich zu erkälten, wenn man nicht daran gewöhnt ist.
Singapore is about the size of Hamburg, making it the smallest country in Southeast Asia in terms of area. Around 5.6 million people live in the island state. The largest ethnic group are the Chinese (around 75%), followed by Tamils and Indians. Singapore is a global financial center and one of the richest countries in the world, which is also reflected in the skyline around Marina Bay, the youngest district of Singapore.
Singapur ist ungefähr so groß wie Hamburg und damit der flächenmäßig kleinste Staat in Südostasien. Rund 5,6 Millionen Menschen leben im Inselstaat. Die größte ethnische Gruppe bilden die Chinesen (rund 75 %), gefolgt von Tamilen und Indern. Singapur ist ein globales Finanzzentrum und zählt zu den reichsten Ländern der Welt, was sich unter anderen auch in der Skyline rund um Marina Bay, dem jüngsten Stadtteil von Singapur, widerspiegelt.
Marina Bay Sands was opened in 2010 as a luxurious holiday resort with a casino, museum, theatre, hotel, rooftop swimming pool and shopping centre. The hotel consists of three 55-storey towers, the roofs of which are connected by a publicly accessible roof terrace. The world's highest (200 m) and longest (146 m) infinity pool on a roof terrace is legendary.
Mit Marina Bay Sands wurde 2010 ein luxuriöses Urlaubsresort mit Casino, Museum, Theater, Hotel, Dach-Freibad und Einkaufszentrum eröffnet. Das Hotel besteht aus drei jeweils 55-stöckigen Türmen, deren Dächer durch eine öffentlich zugängliche Dachterrasse verbunden sind. Legendär ist der weltweit höchste (200 m) und längste (146 m) Infinitypool der Welt auf einer Dachterrasse.
The ArtScience Museum, also known as "The Welcome Hand of Singapore", combines culture and science. Its outer shape is based on a lotus flower. The ten petals rise at different heights towards the sky. The daylight entering from above illuminates the galleries inside.
Im ArtScience-Museum , auch als "The Welcome Hand of Singapore" bezeichnet, verschmelzen Kultur und Wissenschaft. Die äußere Form ist einer Lotusblüte nachempfunden. Die zehn Blütenblätter erheben sich in unterschiedlichen Höhen in Richtung Himmel. Das von oben einfallende Tageslicht erleuchtet die Galerien im Inneren.
Since 2008, the "Singapore Grand Prix" has been held on the Marina Bay Street Circuit as part of Formula 1. Two weeks ago Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won here the night race.
Seit 2008 wird auf dem Marina Bay Street Circuit der "Große Preis von Singapur" im Rahmen der Fomel 1 ausgetragen. Vor zwei Wochen konnte hier Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) das Nachtrennen für sich entscheiden.
The name "Singapore" is from Sanskrit and means "lion city". The water-spouting mythical creature "Merlion" (an artificial word composed of "mermaid" and "lion") is considered the patron saint of the city.
Der Name "Singapur" stammt aus dem Sanskrit und bedeutet Löwenstadt. Das wasserspeiende Fabelwesen "Merlion" (ein Kunstwort zusammengesetzt aus "mermaid" und "lion") gilt als Schutzpatron der Stadt.
The design of the 280 m long "Helix Bridge" resembles the double helix structure of DNA and symbolizes life and continuity, renewal, abundance and growth.

Very impressive is a walk on the Marina South peninsula by night.
Ein besonders eindrucksvolles Erlebnis ist ein Nacht-Spaziergang auf der Halbinsel Marina South.

We have been in Taiwan/Singapore for 3 weeks and are back in austria since a few days. It was my first trip to Asia and I enjoyed it very much. So much is different from us!
