KING PALACE RESTORATION

this was a King's dream of a modern progressive independent Afghanistan

rebuilding the duraluman palace on a hill outside Kabul in the 1920s it was supposed to be the center of a new city he was deposed before the city was
completed over the years.

the palace was a medical school a warehouse and the Ministry of Defence it was attacked then occupied by the Soviets burned and further destroyed by civil war

now an ambitious plan to restore the palace is underway workers have spent a year making the structure safe the 20 million dollar project is paid for and run by Afghans

Afghanistan is a region with many historical places to restore places like this the younger generation
will need to get some experience from those outside the president insisted that women be involved they make up a quarter of the workforce mainly architects and engineers the new government wants women to participate so that the people can clearly see the
differences between the past and today.

the palace grounds will eventually be a national park and land across the street is earmarked for ministries and other government buildings the new city that the King envisioned nearly a century ago plan is to complete rebuilding within two years to restore this palace to its former glory in time for the 100th anniversary of Afghanistan's independ in August 2019 it's an ambitious deadline with a lot of work still to be Done.

The Wakhan Corridor is a remote and mountainous region of Badakhshan Province, located in north eastern Afghanistan.

Traveling in Afghanistan is difficult, but some areas like the Wakhan have remained relatively safe.
The Wakhan is extremely isolated, surrounded by rugged snow-capped peaks of the Pamir and Hindu Kush ranges.

The Wakhi people live in stone huts, farmingand herding animals for a living.
Once part of the ancient silk road, MarcoPolo passed through this region.
The Kyrgyz people are nomadic, living in semi-portableyurts, moving with their animals each season.
This is the other side of Afghanistan, thatyou don't see in the news...
