Must have made a good tree to climb when you were young, we never had this kind of tree near enough to climb.
Beautiful post. In Bohemia, oaks were planted mainly on the ponds for their strengthening. And the lichen grows mainly on the windy side, which actually protects the tree.
So many fables around lichin @bucipuci I was astounded to learn they eventually break down rocks, so little we know of nature. Thanks for interesting insight in your part of the world.

It is a beauty to behold
Oh Yeah! The great old Oaks and of course also the London Plane trees! So great for driveways and treed roads. Another "modern" fave is the green Fever Tree that are now also starting to line roads. A lovely and informative post Lady Joan! Upvoted!
Moving away from imports and back to indigenous, not a bad idea. Finches love Fever Trees for nesting in @papilloncharity
