FIVE HABITS THAT DESTROY YOUR FAITH IN GOD

There are at least five habits that are capable of destroying any Christian's faith in God.
They include

  1. WORRYING
This is probably the most common one as almost everyone is guilty of it. Unfortunately, nothing good comes from worrying. What you get is diminished faith, instead.

James 1:6–8 tells us of the repercussions saying, “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

In order to keep our faith in God, we need to choose faith over worry every single time.

No matter what tries to make us worry, we have to make the conscious decision to choose to trust God, His timing, His wisdom, and most importantly, His words, the scriptures(See Philippians 4:6).

  1. BEING CYNICAL
Constantly expecting the worst to happen in an attempt to prepare yourself for the worst scenario kills your faith.

Being pessimistic instead of being optimistic eventually results in a faith-less Christian.

As believers, we need to be hopeful, not in our chances or people but in God because we need hope in 9rder to have faith (See Hebrews 11:1).

  1. AVOIDING THE BIBLE
Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” In other words, you destroy your faith whenever you neglect the Bible.

You need God’s Words in order to build and fuel your faith in God. You are what you consume, the more you read the Bible, the more faith-filled/Godly you are likely to become.

  1. RELYING ON YOUR FEELINGS
Feelings can be very tricky. One minute you are sad, the next you are jumping for joy. This explains why we should never rely on our emotions, which change all the time.

As Christians, we should rely on God, who has promised to never change (See Malachi 3:6) and His words, which will stand the test of time.

Isaiah 40:8 confirms this saying, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”

“…having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever….” 1 Peter 1:23 adds.

  1. BEING SELF-RELIANT AND CONFIDENT
We live in the #selfmade era when we want to attribute everything we do to ourselves. While it can seem harmless to praise ourselves and our accomplishments, we, as Christians, should know better.

Jeremiah 17:5–9 says, “Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”
