ARISE MY GENERATION FOR DUTY CALLS.

At age of 50, the human brain begins to wind down. The probability of risk taking is very low and at such age only less than 1% can start a business and succeed to a remarkable height, only very few have the capacity to think of new ideas. Their focus is often on consolidation and for the unfortunate ones it is time of regrets and rueing of missed chances and forgone opportunities.

Life happens to be very interesting and exciting at the later part of 20s and early 30s, a lot happens within these period; your first million, first sex, first job, first car, independence and lots more. One often look forward to the next day, the next birthday, the next party to attend, the next job, the next car. Life is hope and time is precious.

But as time rolls by and days come with less enthusiasm, excitement withers and hope gradually begins to dim. Cars, women, men, sex, parties, millions, adventures, etc now makes very little or no sense. The reality of who really am I hits you so hard. The question of what have I achieved start hunting you. At 37years you have finished living for yourself, life is not that exciting anymore. The spouse, the kids, the partner, the friends and ultimately humanity. Questions begin to rush at you like those green light in a science fiction movie.

I remember those days when flat screen and DVDs with woofers were being used to attract ladies, most times the sitting room is with only a soft rug and very dark translucent curtains. When the girl who is now a woman comes visiting and she is thrilled by the sound system and the picture quality of the flat screen, she gets into the kitchen and begins to fix something for them to eat. She lays on his laps as they gist away in excitement and expectations, she begins to leave certain items of hers behind. Suddenly she has her own wardrobe and eventually moves in, life at the stage is super exciting.

Life begins at forty is true only for those who have invested in their twenties. Imagine a forty years old man coming to apply for a job as a graduate trainee, or a sixty year old lady applying to be a bank marketer. Ridiculous right? The pressures of the job would be too much for a brain at sixty, all that is expected of men of 50years and above is to put in 4 to 5 hours of their days to work each day excluding weekends.

Now my point is this, the generation that can be creative enough to start the coalition for a better Nigeria is the people in their 30s. However, it is a failure of this group that is forcing people like the former president Olusegun Obasanjọ to write a thirteen paged letter to PMB. It is the failure of my generation that has inflicted the nation with misery. We cannot continue to blame our fathers for holding onto power, we have to blame ourselves for holding onto frivolous lifestyle, we are consumed by casual pieces of joy, momentary excitement, worthless debates, unhealthy competition, etcetera.

We have refused to grow, we have refused to take responsibility, we tear down each other while the main things are left unattended to, a forty year old man is called a small boy, and he behaves like a boy, he us fascinated by toys, dolls and child like things.

So until we rise up and take our responsibility, until we see ourselves as partners in progress, until we begin to discuss solutions and bring quality thoughts to the table, until we begin to debate and dialogue the real issues, we may just end up living our lives as children even at the age of seventy.

Let's leave the things of teenagers for teenagers and act as adult, Nigeria awaits the rising of the people of my generation.

Indeed A NEW NIGERIA IS POSSIBLE.
