I'm so happy and excited to write this blog as part of my continuation of the last vegetable review ,how to plant it, its health benefits and uses. So today I did my homework and more research on the other type of African Spinach . It has come to my notice that we if not everyone is very conversant with the green African spinach, which is very rich in Nutrients and health benefits. As such, I have come to talk more on the Res African Spinach, it health benefits as well with images and references available.

What is Red African Spinach?

• These are uncommon type of Vegetables that are consume lesser in respect to low publicity and low constant reference to it by many blogger outreach. My own aim and objective is to enlighten us more about this type of Vegetable its health benefits and uses and also a close look at how it can be propagated. This Red African Vegetable is very scanty and can be seen just anywhere in the West Africa to be precise. The seeds are mixed up sometimes as as not to differentiate it from the other green and white African Spinach. Although as for the vegan farmers it can be identify easily when you take a close look at the seeds. Before I talk more about the health benefits, I will like to emphasis more on the planting tips, it weeding methods and fertilizer application.

How To Plant Red African Spinach?

• Like I have said earlier on that you can never identify the seeds mere just looking at it for many people out there unless you are very observant. All you need to do at first is that you go the nearest Agro-Ventures where they sell herbicide, fungicide, pepper seeds, okro seeds, tomatoes seeds and many other seeds for planting, then asked them how viable the African Spinach seeds are. But before planting you have to take some things into consideration like.

• Where do I want to plant the African Spinach seeds, indoor, outdoor, garden, farm. When you answer this questions then you can proceed in planting.

Land Preparation.

• Land survey : You need to do some quick land survey to know how fertile the land is. Or if the land is still manageable to use as Agricultural land.

• Land Clearing. : You need to clear the land be it backyard, frontyard or big farm. After land clearing,

• stumbling.: This simply means collection of the left over tree branches, roots, and some harder tree roots. Stumbling is very necessary.

• Plough .: You must Plough the Agricultural Land before you plant your vegetable seeds to normalize the tree roots and also to mix the soil microorganisms together to assist the vegetable growth and development.

• Fertilizer Application.: In this case, you need to fertilize your soil to promote and boost your planted crops before the weed emerged. You use N. P. K. 15:15:15 on the soil before planting the seeds.

Seed Planting:

The African Spinach is planted by seed. The seed can be practically mix with the little portion of soil thoroughly and use a manual means, by hand spray. It will enhance even distribution of the seed into the soil for proper germination. Some years ago, the African Spinach seeds are usually black-brown in colour but now we have new hybrid seeds which are very resistant to pet, disease and some microorganisms. I don't say we don't have the formal black-brown spinach seeds we have them if you want ,you can request for it but presently we have some improved varieties which grow better and more quickly.

Seed Germination

• When you plant African spinach, few days after your planting 10-15 days you see small tiny leafy green spreadsheet-like plant all over the land, be it your front yard, your backyard or your farm. But as soon as if appears more visible, you seed some reddish brown like plants as well those are the Red African Spinach coming up gradually. The differences will be very clear and visible to the eyes. Now you know how the Red African spinach looks like. I have some on my farm, let see how its looks down below.

Major Visible Differences Between Green And Red African Spinach.?

• Green African Spinach : It whole plant is purely green in nature. While Red African Spinach is purely Red in nature.

• Green African Spinach do not grow prematurely seeds while Red African Spinach do.

• Red African Spinach do mature faster before harvesting while green African Spinach do not.

• Premature seeds.

Health Benefits Of Red African Spinach.

• Red African Spinach is a source of Protein.
• Source of Potassium ( K)
• Source of Fiber
• Source of Vitamin C.
• Source of Vitamin B3.
• Source of iron
• Source of Calcium (Ca)
• Treatment of Digestion
• Treatment of Anemia
• Treatment of Kidney
• Treatment of Fever.

These are some of the Health benefits and uses of Red African Spinach.

Disadvantages

• Water will turn reddish when washing before cooking.
• Fast maturity.
