Ride on the Abras on Dubai Creek

Abra is actually a water-taxi boat that locals use to get across the creek from one side to another.
Some of the more decorated Abra is reserved for tourists and they are very costly because it is for tourists. They charge you a big sum because you all sit together with the tourists.
But if you ride on the local Abrah and sit with the locals, the boat routes are the same and it costs you only 1 Dirham, the same amount that all locals are charged. All local people take these local Abra as their daily transport.
1 Durham is about US 27 cents only.
When we were there in the evening, there were no tourists which was just as well, otherwise we didn't know that we could just ride along with the locals.
Seldom do tourists ride with the locals. We didn't mind as we wanted to feel how the locals live. But they all looked at us as we were the only tourists that went on their local Abra.
We all sat in the 2 wooden benches and we all face away from each other so that we all get to look in front of us to see the nice scenery as the boat crosses to the other side. This seating is actually quite comfortable. I like it.
This is what I get to see. How beautiful and scenic is this ride!
Dubai Creek
Dubai Creek is a bustling area as it is the lifeblood of the city from one generation to another.
Along the creek you will see many traditional boats that are ready to cross the creek that separates Bur Dubai from Deira, Dubai’s city centre.
These boats run every few minutes in the entire day.
You don't really need to go by the schedule and when there are about 20 people, the boat is ready to go.
2 Boat Routes
There are 2 routes in these boat rides.
One route goes from Deira Old Souk Abra Station near the Spice Souk to Bur Dubai Abra Station which is west of the Old Souk.
The second route goes from Al Sabkha Abra Station which is southwest of Baniyas Square to Dubai Old Souk Abra Station. This one is the busiest route.
The journey takes about 5 minutes.
Souks around the Dubai Creek
You will discover many Souks that have been developed around Dubai Creek. The reason is that this was where most of the things were produced when people first originally arrived the city.
Since Dubai had turned into a Tourist attraction, there are a lot of modern shops built in the Souks.
You will find two main souks after you cross the Creek: Gold Souk and the Spice Souk.
Both of these are within walking distance of each other.
When you get off from the Abra boat, you will see the Spice Souk entrance right in front of you as you leave the Abra boat station.
