THE PROJECT WORK PLAN

he project work plan covers the implementation strategy, which is the plan that covers how the solution to the problem or opportunity will be put into action.

The project work plan should include

KEY ACTIVITIES AND LOCATION

A project consists of a number of activities in a specific location. Examples include setting up a new database system, or updating a company's network.

MILESTONES AND TIMELINES FOR COMPLETION

A project must deliver measurable results within a predetermined time frame. If you are seeking funding for a project, you must be able to give estimates of when it will generate results. For example, you could say that a new order processing system will be active in three months, and will double the company's processing ability in six months.

TASK TIMEFRAMES

The plan must contain a breakdown of the time required for each task in the project. For example, in the case of a project to relocate an office, the overall project may be broken down into smaller tasks such as securing a new premises, moving furniture, installing a network, and so on.

THE RISKS

The plan must document the risks associated with the project. For example, if a project is unsuccessful, the company may lose money, or it may lose out on pursuing other opportunities.

THE STAFF

The plan must list the staff members who will work on the project. This may be a small group of people in some projects, or it could be entire departments, or the project could be outsourced.

The plan must state how the plan will be carried out. It does not require the assumptions and constraints that were factors in deciding on the plan.

The plan should contain a detailed schedule for each task in the project.

The plan should forecast the completion of different phases of the project.

The plan should contain information about the staff members who will implement the project.
