Tips from the Steem Freelancer's Guild #2 - Using Discord to manage your clients

in #tutorial6 years ago

Hey, Steemian freelancers (Steemlancers)!

Do you need a better way for people to contact you? How about one that will let you manage your list of clients easily? If you use Discord, you've already got the perfect tool!

Creating a link to a personal message in Discord can be difficult, if possible at all, so our guild leader, @thatsweeneyguy, has come up with a clever work around.

Here's the trick:

  1. Create your own Discord Server.

  2. Name it something that reflects your services, or just make it your username. Whatever you'd like.

  3. Invite people to your new server!

It's really that simple! Now you have a full featured client contact suite! You can get as creative as you'd like with your new server. Add different channels for each service you provide, add notes to clients for future reference, or anything else you can think of, go nuts!

Already had one setup. I'm new to discord too, so I decided the best way too learn is try it out! Doesn't take a whole lot to setup and you can make it as complex as you desire. That's something I really enjoy about discord service...if only steemitchat could hang.

I created my own emojis and in the process of a rating system that will give my clients a better 'vocabulary' with symbols they can use to rate and critique work. Simple system that lets me know where I am in terms of the design progression and also where the client's mind is. Sometimes we can convey thoughts easier in a symbol, rating, or reaction than we can find the words for sometimes. If what you see is not what you envisioned, toss a skunk under it - or a color code system that is cold, neutral, hot..possibilities are endless.

Thought I would 'think out loud' here so maybe others can create their own system once they have a discord ready and clients on deck.

this is not a bad idea tho, but controlling a discord channel for me looks hectic cause i run many projects on telegram and whatsapp.

looks like i would look into creating a telegram channel for that

Hi @thatsweeneyguy I saw your post about Discord and Steem Freelancer's Guild....really fascinating post. I checked the website and see that the SFG is a separate "marketplace" for freelancers to share their products/services. Looking at the SFG Steemit page, it only started in Jan 2018, and your members engage on Discord. Is there any other communication platform to engage with the community or do you have to register and signup for Discord?
Great idea to create the SFG community....
