Just been watching... Occupied

in #tv5 years ago

I have just been watching the Norwegian eco-political drama 'Occupied'.

Just started episode 4 and I am totally enjoying it.

Someone on Steem recommended it - but I can't remember who. Thank you whoever it was.

The first series of Occupied was released on Norway TV in 2015. The second series came out a couple of years later.

It is set in the near future...

The Middle East is in turmoil so oil production has dropped dramatically and the USA has become self-sufficient in oil so moved towards a position of isolationism.

After a major climatic event hits Norway a new green government is swept into power. One of the first actions of this new government is to halt production of oil and gas.

Russia cannot produce enough to make up the shortfall and Europe falls into economic crisis due to the severe fuel shortages.

The EU demands Norway resume production, but Norway refuses.

With the backing and collusion of the EU, Russia 'occupies' Norway to force the resumption of oil and gas production.

Isolated and against overwhelming odds the Norwegian Prime Minister is forced to submit.

But not everyone in Norway is prepared to take this lying down....

That is where I have got to so far.

Not having a TV or Netflix I am not a regular consumer of TV dramas, so this is a much appreciated dose of entertainment for me.

The storyline although a little stretched in places, is thought provoking.

If a Green Government ever took power in the UK what compromises, if any, would it have to make?

If the security of the country was threatened by an overwhelming power, how far would the government go to appease the aggressor? Or would it stand up against the threat whatever the consequences.

I am just about to start episode 4 of 18. So far I would definitely recommend it.

I watched this last year. Really enjoyed it.

Did you watch both series?

Yep. I really love some Nordic drama.

I hope it maintains the momentum into the second series.

Eco-Political dramas are very interesting to watch - though it's rare to come across one, mostly because they're forgotten for popular / relatable TV shows. Would you say that there's a lot of tension/action in Occupied, @pennsif? I haven't watched it before, so I'm wondering if it's anything dramatic / similar to TV shows such as Black Mirror. Looking forward to reading future posts! You’ve just got a full upvote from us.

Hi there. It was worth watching, although I did feel the second series was stretching the story line a bit too far. I haven't watched Black Mirror for quite a while, but I don't think Occupied had quite so much depth to it as Black Mirror.
