Ancient temple in the village of Novikovka

Here it is the most ancient temple, which was built on the territory of the present Ulyanovsk region.

It was still in 1770. The two-patronal church, with the main altar in the name of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, and in the chapel in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, was built at the expense of the parishioners. Destroyed in the 20s. It is surprising that in those ancient times they were able to build like this, now the temple is in a deplorable state, but it still amazes with its grandeur and beauty.

In those old times the village of Novikovka was rich, large and beautiful, located on both banks of the Krasnaya River. On the mountain, above the village and over the river stood a temple, and immediately behind it a rural cemetery.

Local residents still hold services there, icons, a table and a shop are set up in a secluded place in the church. I looked inside, there was no one there at that time, and I was too shy to go to the icons, but to be honest, it was scary, the masonry looked strong, but everywhere there were stones falling from the arches.

Now, of course, they will no longer restore or build a new temple, the village is getting smaller and smaller every year, there are very few parishioners left.
