Four clubs were able to reach the semi-finals of the tournament: Nottingham Forest, Hamburg, Ajax and Real Madrid.
The final game of the tournament was held in 28 May 1980, at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid between Nottingham Forest and Hamburg. The english club was able to win the game 1-0 and to clinch his second European title.
The top goalscorer of the tournament was Søren Lerby from Ajax, with 10 goals scored.
