New UI from @Ned, but it won't be Steemit.com!

in #ui6 years ago

I feel with the turmoil after the launch the hardfork 20 and immediately after, this piece of news haven't got enough spotlight.

In the comments of this blog post of @steemitblog, besides some public bashing, we found out that Steemit, or rather Ned separetely, from the wording, is working on a new UI that is aimed at easier onboarding of regular folks to crypto.

Here's the conversation with the details:

The first comment of Ned breaks the news:

However, I am working on an entirely new UI to take the mantle of onboarding normies into crypto.

There are some hints here too, but they are further explained in Ned's next intervention:

Except everything will be new. In order to give the project maximal potential I’m building it under a new corporate structure with new top tier scalable name and domain (mobile first, though) and mission leveraging much experience gained, I believe much to the benefit of everyone, who will join.

Let's take this a part a bit:

In order to give the project maximal potential I’m building it under a new corporate structure

So, a conclusion was reached that a new corporate structure is needed for maximal potential of the project. Something different than Steemit, Inc. then.

Also notice he is talking in first person, so this seems to be his project.

Hopefully the future company will have a better name. Opening the window to be called "STINC" in your own community, whenever there are divergences (and even when not, because it sticks), is not good marketing.

with new top tier scalable name and domain

So it will have a different top domain name than steemit.com.

What exactly is a scalable name, in this context? Without a reference to the name of the blockchain, or crypto in general, so regular people won't be as reluctant to the idea of joining and using the platform?

(mobile first, though)

So the UI will be optimized for mobiles. Considering most people use social media on their mobiles, that's not smart, that's the only option for a UI build to last.

That's it then.

Following those comments of @ned, I'm left with two open questions. And obviously, I'd like to know more details.

1. What will happen to Steemit condenser and Steemit.com domain name?

2. Will Steemit, Inc. continue to be the main developer of Steem blockchain core code and related back-end projects, while the expected newly formed company will be more focused on front-end projects and marketing?

Interesting Post Adrian. We will see what happens. That can be exciting.

Yeah I agree Norbert, it sure could be exciting. But often we are left wondering or imagining scenarios based on a few words.

Yep. But that's the magic.

Great point!
