Nuclear Winter? #club100

Not too long ago, Putin invaded Ukraine. The entire world was in shock and dismayed that this would happen. I mean, this is 2022, not 1822 or even 1922. Hasn't anyone heard that war is bad for the economy? The Russian citizens must certainly be feeling the economic pinch from sanctions.

Speaking of past wars: Russia has traditionally been an ally of Britain and North America. Yes, there has been considerable disagreement about how to organize the economy, but when things got truly serious--we always worked together (more or less) to put down any upstarts that were wreaking havoc on the world. Think of Napoleon, the Kaiser, and Hitler. Who is the next to be added to that list?

The war has gone poorly for Putin. There has been a great loss of life (on both sides) as civilians fight back. Military aid has poured in from all over the world. Yet, the aggressor keeps coming. Putin has conscripted Russian men, relied on bizarre conspiracy theories to fool the population into compliance, and committed war crimes. In desperation, Russia has now allied with Iran to obtain military drones that he is using to attack civilians and civil infrastructure.

The purpose of the drones is to cut off heat and electricity supplies to the Ukrainian population. Already, these Iranian drones have destroyed a third of Ukraine's power stations.

There is also some concern that Iran will supply Putin with missiles.

So much destruction, and for what? Seriously, for what? Even if Putin manages to take more territory, he has blasted this territory into the stone age.

What is sure is that this conflict is de-stabilizing the entire world. The chance of this war escalating into a nuclear conflict is high. VERY high.

Keep in mind that Ukraine does not even have nuclear weapons anymore. No matter what one's politics, there is no dispute that any nuclear escalation will come from Putin.

So what happens next? Who knows. The only thing that is sure is that people all over the world will suffer.
