Purple Belt blues , Lifting for BJJ -Solo training
I am having to resort to my own personal training much for the upcoming competition. I live up north, in a small city of 47000 people in the north. I am one of three purple belts in city and there are two jiujitsu clubs. Its small and very tight knit and I have not really gotten into the fray or group. They play jiujitsu very differently and I am like the highest belt together with the two other purples. I miss the hard training from NYC and I have to resort to my own conditioning. So I dug up some old school full body fitness exercises from the past. This Goblet squat to push-press with a dumbbell is a excellent tool for building full body power in the lower ad upper body.
Its a quick 3x10 explosive lift with a full stretch down low. Try it and build that explosive power for standing up in the guard. I prefer the Dumbbell for speed and the balancing my stabilizing muscles have to do that is needed in BJJ.
Next I use a Barbell staggered stance push press, a excellent tool for once again, staggered standing up in guard and building explosive power in body. Athleticism is a part of jiujitsu, especially at higher levels when people don't make mistakes. Let me know what you guys think.
