Ulog #042 : How soon can you harvest sweet potato tops after re-planting?

in #ulog6 years ago (edited)

As I have said before, sweet potatoes aren't that hard to manage after re-planting. As the stalk cuttings are already matured, nurturing them with water to assist the roots to its' new surroundings, as well as the new sprouting tops is needed. Once they look fresh and not wilted in the soil, watering them can be less frequent, so long as the soil doesn't look so dry like the Sahara. My new ones are ok with every other day sprinking in the afternoon.

More than a week ago i've shown my newly planted sweet potatoes and those i have planted on the day. As @jnetsworld was planning to propagate her own, maybe this wil encourage her a bit. See how easy it is!

My first harvest

These harvested ones were planted by mid-August. I re-started to plant new ones when my mom got home from the hospital more than a month later. Cuttings i used were foraged on the other side of our backyard where the original plants are.

Allonsy!

The matured cuttings will either have a root or new sprouts in it to help you decide on which part to re-plant with a higher probability of having successful ones. All they need is to be frequently watered, which i do in the mornings or late afternoon.

Once the leaves are removed, they can be re-planted immediately or soaked in water, for a day or longer till satisfied. The new sprouts and roots will be bigger and longer.

If you check the plain stalks, these sprouts were already there, the size just got bigger. It's unusual to see cuttings without them. These ones are literally a week old.

Wait for them to mature, harvest those edible ones and re-plant. Easy peasy!

Pre-harvest this morning. Age is 6-7 weeks.

Forage at your leisure!

We're after the leaves..the tops most especially.
Even when they're too mature, the sweet potatoes aren't big coz it's a different type.

Ilaga tapos isawsaw sa bagoong haaay ang saraaaap!
