Ulog #4 - Sick as a D🐶g!
Ever heard the phrase sick as a dog before?. According to reports, the said expression originated from Europe back in the 1700s which means "very ill", and usually referring to a terrible stomach upset. "Being sick" in the British language means "to vomit", and dogs are known to vomit frequently, therefore, the connection.
Earlier this morning, I woke up to find our dog, Dobby sprawled on the kitchen floor, looking lethargic - which is so not how he usually greets me in the morning. Yes, our poor Dobby was sick as a dog. Well, I guess, in this case, he's just a plain sick dog. Dobby, by the way, is a beagle, and if you're familiar with the breed, you'd know that beagles are usually a ball of energy pretty much all day long.
It's also worth noting that I found an empty chocolate wrapper a few feet away from where he was. And right away, I knew what happened.
Chocolates, as you probably know, are extremely toxic to dogs. Chocolates contain chemicals that dogs' bodies cannot metabolize. And when ingested, if not properly and immediately treated, could cause renal failure.
Needless to say, we had to rush him to the vet. And without having to go into gross details, he was able to come home with us afterwards. Yay! :)
We even got to take him to the park for a walk.
That's pretty much how our day went today. Hopefully my #ulog tomorrow will not include any trips to the doctor - of any kind.
Glad your adorable Dobby is fine again. I enforce a strict chocolate policy in our home - I eat them before the dog can get to them! It's tough, but I am diligent and so we've never had an incident. ;-)
We try to be diligent about it too but we will just have to be extra careful this time. 😊
I meant be diligent about eating the choccies before the doggies do - if you're having problems, I am a human choccie vaccum machine. Just invite me over I will show you LOL
