THE EVOLUTION OF CLOTHING AND WASHING MACHINE

in #ulog6 years ago

Hello there my fellow Steemians!

Today I would like to write about the evolution of clothings and washing machine. I like this topic, because I know all of us need to wash our clothes. I just don't know how the Billionaires wash their clothes or are they washing their clothes or just buy another clothes after they used theirs?

Now, let us begin my story back in the creation time. When Adam and Eve were created. They were innocent, right? They just needed clothes when after their Fall.

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

(That passage is from Genesis chapter 3 verse 7 of the New International Version)

The first covering or clothes Adam and Eve made were sewed fig leaves...

What if they did not fall or disobeyed God? I guess we will not be wearing any clothes then.
What if we only wear sewed fig leaves? Then we will not be washing clothes.

Ha, ha...who would like to wear sewed fig leaves then?Thank God He made them clothes made from goat's skin. Thus, the founding of the leather clothes.

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. ( Genesis 3: 21)

AND SO THE EVOLUTION OF CLOTHES AND WASHING MACHINE:

From Leather to fabric/cloth:

The first actual textile, as opposed to skins sewn together, was probably felt. Surviving examples of Nålebinding, another early textile method, date from 6500 BC.[citation needed] Our knowledge of ancient textiles and clothing has expanded in the recent past thanks to modern technological developments.[7] Our knowledge of cultures varies greatly with the climatic conditions to which archeological deposits are exposed; the Middle East and the arid fringes of China have provided many very early samples in good condition, but the early development of textiles in the Indian subcontinent, sub-Saharan Africa and other moist parts of the world remains unclear. In northern Eurasia, peat bogs can also preserve textiles very well.

Cloth begun when textiles were produced also with linen that was used early in Ancient East in wrapping thier dead. And also, when needle was invented to sew textiles for them to make clothes. Different parts of the world, through achaelogical expiditions shows their early kinds of clothings.

Here in the Philippines, early of our ancestors wore the "Bahag" a piece of cloth that covers the private parts of men, and a tube-like skirt which the Maranao called "Malong". As the years go by, other kinds of clothings here in our country showed the social standing of Filipinos, especially during the time of Spanish and American colonizations.

Today in our time, only some of the Tribal people and Muslim communities wore their ancient clothings. But most of the Filipinos wear timely Fashion wears with styles from other countries.

THE EVOLUTION OF WASHING MACHINE:

When I was 12 years old,(1983) I still remember when we went to the river side to wash our clothes the ancient way. We have a piece of wood we called "Palo- palo," and we hit the clothes over a big stone. And then we washed the clothes over the running water of the river.

And then, I've found a 14th and 18th century images that used the process that we were doing when I was 12 years old.

Right now, we don't go to the river anymore to wash our clothes, this is because the rivers in our country are not as clean as before because of garbages and pollution ( Sad part of the story).

Instead, most of us Filipinos, wash our clothes with our bare hands. Although some who are in the middle class have already, what we call now "Washing Machines."

And here's the video I made during our washing day: (Just for Fun)

KINDS OF WASHING MACHINES:
One of the Ancient Washing machines I've found over the internet is "Bucket" and they call this process of washing as "Bucking."

Soaking laundry in lye, cold or hot, was an important way of tackling white and off-white cloth. It was called bucking, and aimed to whiten as well as cleanse.

Then came the "Wash board and Brush", a flat wooden board and with brush...some, still use this process during this time.

THE INVENTION OF ELECTRIC WASHING MACHINE:
As Thomas Edison pioneered the use of electricity, some other inventor by the name of Alva J. Fisher invented the "Thor."

The Thor was a drum-type washing machine with a galvanized tub.

The Thor brand is still used today but not familiar anymore.

One of the earliest manufacturer company of old washing machine was the Maytag Corporation who begun in 1893 by F.L. Maytag.

Some of their old fashioned washing Machines can be seen here

Another well-known brand, the Whirlpool Corporation, started in 1911 as the Upton Machine Co., in St. Joseph, Mich., to produce electric motor-driven wringer washers.

Truly, the wisdom and knowledge of men, as they were increasing made the life of men become easier. What if Adam and Eve did not commit sin? Would men still be using these inventions? I bet no, because we will not be using any clothes then.

But men became so lazier because of such inventions and become lonelier. We don't spend time anymore with our love ones doing the washing of our clothes. Yes, they make life easier but they make us lonelier.

Me and my wife still enjoy, washing our clothes together with our bare hands. While we were washing our clothes, we had time to talk. We, plan, we laugh and sometimes argue while washing.

What about you? What method are you using in washing your clothes? Or should I say, what machine are you using? Thanks for reading this far. I hope you enjoyed and learned something...
