I went to market today to pick up some vegetables and other foodstufs. While still at it, I heard some noise at a distance. Was attracted by the sounds of drums and a voice singing. Thinking it was some political movement or maybe something else. All the same, I wasn't sure what the singing was about.

Still walking into the market, I became curious when I saw a group of people gathered around the scene where the song was being played. Some people were just passing by, going about their business for the day. Others were about their purchase and sales.

Getting to the scene, I met the unexpected. Guess what? It was a blind young man who was singing the songs and playing along. It wasn't drum set like I had thought. It was empty plastic Jerricans he was producing those sounds from. What amazed me was the fact that he was singing so passionately and the incredible sound was in harmony with the drum beat that from a distance, you wouldn't believe those were empty plastic jerricans. Children danced hapilly as they passed by with their mothers. Other passers-by who were thrilled by his performance gave him some money.

The song he sang was in hausa (a Nigerian language). It was an expression of gratitude to almighty God. This man was partially blind and still he had something to be grateful for. He was thanking God in a creative way despite his inability. I was close to tears when I saw that.

This got me thinking. A lot of persons have excuses for not doing what they should have done or what they are supposed to do. Others shift blames to attract pity party. They have convinced themselves that they "can't" and as such become incapacitated. Are you like one of those examples above? Maybe yours is a little bit different. What is your excuse for not being creative or not showing gratitude? You have your limbs complete. You're not breathing through oxygen plant. Kill your excuses. Look into yourself. There's so much you can do. Take a look back at where you started from and where you are now. I'm sure there's something to be thankful to God for.
