#Ulog 01: Regular Immunization Day!
I have seen a lot of #ulog posts these past few days. I’m asking my friends what does #ulog means all about. Upon reading some #ulog posts, It made me interested in making one. So here is my first #ulog post.
Being a Public Health Nurse under Department of Health, our main duty is to assist the DOH in properly implementing those programs in every locality. One is the Expanded Program on Immunization, where those infants should be fully immunized before reaching 1 year old. Immunization is being conducted as a prevention measure against some diseases like TB, Hepatitis, polio, diptheria, pneumonia, measles and more.
As I woke up this morning, I remember that it is already the third tuesday of the month. It is scheduled as our Regular Immunization Day or sometimes called, “Bakuna Day” of my assigned community which is Barangay Banaoang.
When I arrived at the health center, the Rural Health Midwife assigned me to be the vaccinator and she will be the recorder. I am glad that there’s a lot of parents who are very cooperative this month. They don’t even bothered of the warm weather. Everyone was carrying their babies waiting their names to be called. I can see the different emotions with the mothers. Some are getting nervous because they don’t want to see their babies having the injection while others were happy and excited because they knew that their babies will get vaccinated that will boost their babies’ immune system again. Parents were also asked for their consent prior to administration of the vaccines to their children. All mothers were advised to come back the next month, especially when their children are not yet finished.
We started 8:00AM and we ended up 12:00 noon. For those parents who are not able to go at the health center this morning , I will conduct a home visit and will perform a follow up immunization to make sure that their children will get vaccinated this month.
Every mother have their own record. It is where we usually write down the vaccines they received and the follow up schedules. They have to present the record to us before their children get vaccinated. It’s a must.
The vaccines are consist of BCG, PENTA, Oral Polio Vaccine, IPV, Pneumonia Conjugate Vaccine, Measles and MMR.
