Like chicken cemani, the Prasinohaema lizard species also has green body tissue. Starting from the tongue, some of the anatomy, bones and blood are truly green. This strange lizard phenomenon is not the result of engineering or genetic abnormalities. But it is already looking for unique characteristics of the innate species.

Originally native to the Papua New Guinea archipelago, this green-blooded lizard Prasinohaema first became popular when biologists from Louisiana State University and Christopher Austin with the National Geographic exploratory team conducted a special study of research in Papua New Guinea after first finding out from the journal Science in 1969.

The results of research conducted by biologists managed to reveal some interesting facts, what caused the body of the "Prasinohaema" lizard to contain concentrated green blood, and not red as in other lizard families commonly encountered.

According to Austin's explanation from the National Geographic Team, why can this lizard be so green in color? It is known that in the body of the strange lizard has a very high biliverdin bile pigment concentration.
This biliverdin bile pigment itself comes from oxygen in the blood carried by red hemoglobin. Then when hemoglobin is damaged. The substance will continue to be carried to the liver to be broken down into molecules such as biliverdin and bilirubin, this chemical process can all occur not only in animals but also humans.

Biliverdin has a distinctive green color so that when these pigmented compounds are excreted with bile while in the intestine. There will be a green area around bruises that are undergoing a healing process in the body. The color of this substance causes the Prasinohaema lizard to have a green color, from blood, soft tissue, tongue until the bone is green.

The impact of the difference in humans with this green-blooded lizard when the body contains biliverdin is human although it contains a small amount of biliverdin, its health can be ascertained to experience jaundice due to liver damage.

Unlike the strange lizard Prasinohaema, the content of biliverdin is actually very useful for him because it can protect the body against harmful parasites called Plasmodium. The Plasmodium parasite is known as the ringleader of a dangerous malaria disease transmitted through naughty mosquitoes
