Utopian Open Source Radio - Ep 23 - Full Show Recording
The big news and issues of the Steem blockchain needs to be discussed out in the open. Today we do just that with @blocktrades and @tensor on the Utopian Open Source Radio Show Episode 23. This show was aired live on Wednesday, November 28th thanks to the MSP Waves network.
@jedigeiss uses his superhero talents to keep us focused on the serious discussion today.
Princess of FOSS news, @techslut uses her many years of experience in the tech sector to shed light on some of the happenings of our beloved Steem blockchain. She also brings us some general FOSS news that we all need.

Open Source News
The big news today was the recent announcement by Steemit Inc. outlining their cutbacks. Full article here. This sparked a great deal of discussion on the show. Here are some random snips...
@lanniebrockstein - Can the witnesses and Steemit users buy Steemit from Steemit Inc.?
@blocktrades - The code's open source, so anyone can run a copy (just change the steemit trademark, etc)
@therealwolf - Condenser, the software, is what is running at Steemit.com - the rest is simply, from a website perspective, branding.
There was talk about Clojure and its curator, Rich Hickey.
@nothingismagick - https://gist.github.com/richhickey/1563cddea1002958f96e7ba9519972d9
70% of the Steemit workforce laid off.
@techslut also came through with a couple of non-Steem articles for us:
"They find that based on the typical pay of computer programmers, the cost to develop the Github code for these languages would be over $3 billion—much of which was unpaid for. "
Check out the recording for lots of more discussion.
Utopian Content
@jedigeiss and @techslut talked a little about the good work being done at Utopian, but the Steemit Inc. news dominated the show.

Special Guests
Our first guest this week is a very influential Steemian, @blocktrades. He is at the center of the exchange of currency in the Steem community. His insight into the inner workings of the blockchain as well as the monetary implications are far-reaching. It was great to hear @blocktrades' take on the recent events at Steemit Inc. as well as to hear about the amazing new things he is up to. Here are some snips of the conversation...
With the new proposed changes by Steemit Inc. to the Steem blockchain it will make it more manageable for exchanges to list Steem tokens.
We had a discussion about costs for running full nodes - buying your own hardware vs. renting.

@transisto - @blocktrades Do you think Steemit should focus on improving curation incentives before SMT? @blocktrads felt that he felt that curation should be addressed first.
Our second special guest was the amazing @tensor. He has been on our show in the past and WOWed the audience with tales of the incredibly advanced programming work he does daily. We were VERY lucky to have @tensor with us for this show because of his intimate knowledge of the blockchain and related tech. Throughout the show as things got technical (which they alway do) @tensor was able to pipe in to clarify and offer his informed opinion.
@tensor hinted at some of the cool things he is up to these days and he promises to return during a less volatile time to give us more detail on his work. Thank you @tensor.
