Testing if STEEMPUNK-NET and Other Chrome Extensions are Compatible with Brave

What Will I Learn?

Brave is an awesome open source web browser that also has their feet dipped into blockhain technology with BAT(basic attention token). My issue with Brave is their lack of extensions and recently I got into STEEMPUNK-NET, which is a game developed on the Steem blockchain and it works as a Chrome extension. So today I'm going to teach you how to test if any Chrome extension is compatible with Brave.

Requirements

  • Brave web browser
  • Google Chrome
  • Any Chrome Extension

Difficulty

  • Basic

Tutorial Contents

Step 1: Locate the Extensions

Locate the directory where Chrome and Brave extensions stay.

This is where I found Chrome's:

This is where I found Brave's:

You will notice that each folder is whole lot of letters like someone just smashed the keys on the keyboard because they were to lazy to think of a proper name for them, but these letters are actually unique IDs given to each extension.

Step 2: Use an Unwanted Brave Extension

Go to Brave settings and under the tab 'Extensions', click to enable an extension that you don't want to use. For me, I went for the extension 'honey'.

Now close Brave.

The ID for the Honey extension is: bmnlcjabgnpnenekpadlanbbkooimhnj. So click on that folder in the Brave extensions directory and inside you'll find another folder with a version number, rename that folder and just put an 'x' at the end of it.

Step 3: Add the Extension you want

Go to the Chrome extensions directory and locate the folder with the ID of the extension you want. I'll be using the extension STEEMPUNK-NET because I really want to use it on my favourite browser.

Once you've found the right folder, inside you'll see, again, a folder with a version number, copy that folder and paste it in the Honey extension folder.

Rename it to match the version number of the Honey extension (without the 'x')

Step 4: Check Compatibility

Open Brave and go back to the extension tab. You'll see that the extension you wanted is there.

However, this doesn't yet mean it's compatible. Unfortunately, STEEMPUNK-NET is not compatible for Brave, yet.

The extension doesn't show:

Hopefully, STEEMPUNK-NET will become compatible with Brave soon.

In the meantime there are a whole lot of Chrome extensions that are compatible on Brave, one example is the Emoji keyboard by EmojiOne.

Now I can use emojis on Brave 😋.

With this method you can test any Chrome extension you want on Brave.

Let me know what extensions you tested.

Thanks for reading!
