Get Strategies For Your 4-Digit Pin Codes With Privacy Friendly PIN Mnemonic.

in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

Generating unique, strong, and easy to remember passwords, and pins are sometimes not an easy task to embark on. Lately, I have been searching for different Android tools to aid the process. I have been lucky enough to have come across an account that cares about security issues.

The last project I published was an Android app titled Password Generator. I recommend you to visit the post if you missed it. Password Generator is a project by SecUSo.
In today's blog posts, I will be Introducing another security-related app from the same project owner. The name of the app is Privacy Friendly PIN Mnemonic. I see this project as an extended version of Password Generator, but, with a different aim.

Introduction

Privacy Friendly PIN Mnemonic is a security tool for generating ideas, patterns, or strategies for remembering a 4-digit personal identification number (PIN). I have found this tool very useful for anyone who seems to always forget their pin codes.

I have been able to simultaneously use both apps as prerequisites while generating a unique pin code for my bank app. I generated a 4-digit pin code with Password Generator, then, I used Privacy Friendly PIN Mnemonic to generate mnemonics to assist me in remembering the pin generated.

I have different applications that request for pin code as a means of security, and I'm glad to say that, I have just found the solution to the problem I usually experience while locking those apps with a pin code. For example, I won't be scared to use hard-to-guess pin codes anymore, because, Privacy Friendly PIN Mnemonic is the right tool to help me remember whatever pin I prefer to use.
The app is lightweight, neat, and easy to use. The current version is v2.0.1, and the last code update was 29days ago. I'm patiently anticipating for an update.

How Are The Mnemonic Generated?

Below are the strategies stated by the developer based on the PIN entered.

  • Does the PIN form a year or a date?
    Example 3112: December: 31.12.
  • Does the PIN form a word based on the letters on the digit keys of a cell phone keypad?
    Example 2229: BABY
  • Does the PIN have mathematical connections?
Example 6432: 64 is twice that of 32
Displaying symbols as an incentive to think up a story
Example 5411: Symbols: hand, cloverleaf, and football -> History: I hold in my hand (5 fingers) a shamrock (4 leaves) and drive to football (11 players)
  • Does the PIN form a shape on the mobile phone keypad?
Example 1478: L shape on the keyboard

The above examples shows how Privacy Friendly PIN Mnemonic generates mnemonic for the pin code a user enters. It's important to make use of this application to generate symbols, words, formulas, or stories for your 4 digit PIN code.

I needed a pin code for my banking app, which was why I used password Generator to quickly generate one, and I got the code 3971. I entered the code into Mnemonic generator, and I was amazed by the results provided by the app.

Privacy Friendly PIN Mnemonic has the same feature as its twin (Password Generator), where users can't take screenshots of the app while generating pin codes, or from the page that shows the generated codes. Because of this feature, I had to capture the screen with another Android device.

After I entered the 3971 code generated from Password Generator, Below are the mnemonic generated by the mnemonic generator app.

Result:

  • It represented the code 3971 as a date 03-09-(19)71.
  • It represented the number 3 with a triangle -🔺.
  • It represented the number 9 with a whot with number 9 on it.
  • It represented the number 7 with a 7 O'Clock symbol 🕖.
  • It represented the number 1 with a first-place medal emoji -🥇.

Amongst the list of strategies provided, I prefer using the date format strategy. Because, it's easier to remember.

Conclusion

This post, and the one I published few days ago, are my best password, and pin managing tools. I believe it will be a useful tool to help users remember any of their 4 digit codes, while making use of the things around them as strategies.

Thank you for sharing information about the Privacy-Friendly PIN Mnemonic application. Indeed, the app is useful. I appreciate that you wrote about this application, and I believe it will sure help some folks.

However, the project is not well maintained. The last update on the Play store was made in 2016, but I’ll score this post because of the little repo clean up which was done a few weeks ago. I hope the project maintainers continue to work on the project.

The post is well done, and informative. The content is unique and editorial. I am pleased to see the improvement in your publications. However, you need to work on style and grammar.

Thank you!
