Details

  • What is OpenBazaar?
OpenBazaar is an open source, peer-to-peer platform for trading physical goods, services and crypto-currencies. There are no fees for using the software, listing, buying, or selling. It is easy to use and fully featured with inventory and listing management, product variants and more. The platform has an excellent escrow system for conflict resolution.

  • Benefits of Steem/ SBD integration on OpenBazaar:
Steem/ SBD integration would be a big asset for both communities. It would provide more liquidity to the Steem eco-system and also exposure of the excellent qualities of our blockchain to the users of OpenBazaar. At the time of writing, the OpenBazaar community estimates at least 150 thousand nodes are running. Numbers are hard to come by on the platform by design, but however you look at it, that is a lot. We could all benefit by the faster transaction of Steem and the exposure on OpenBazaar.

  • Posts on @DiggnDeeper.com that started the project (newest on top):

We are looking to find a developer who would detail the requirements for integration of Steem and SBD into the OpenBazaar platform.

The task begins with a review of the documentation within https://github.com/OpenBazaar/wallet-interface/blob/master/wallet.go to see if there are any obvious gaps in their coin's ability to meet this interface. You can get in touch with OpenBazaar with questions to properly understand the scope of this work from their perspective.

Components

Our current task involves:

  1. Review the open source code and documentation (link provided above) and provide a feasibility report.
  2. Determine the technology stack required to build the plugin.
  3. Create a feature list and roadmap.
  4. Create tasks in Github project board for easy tracking of progress.
  5. Create a report detailing your findings on these issues.

Deadline

I hope two weeks is a reasonable deadline.

There will be a bounty of at least 50 Steem. I would like to see that increase to 100 steem shortly. I will be doing a campaign round to pick up some donors and delegators to fund this task and more.

Hi, Steemonob. Task requests are mostly meant as a way for project owners to find people willing to contribute to their open source project. I am assuming you aren't the project owner of Open Bazaar, and so there is no way of really knowing if they'd be interested in implementing something like this in first place.

Unfortunately this means it can't really be rewarded by Utopian. Of course it can still be used as a way to find people who may be able to solve the task for you -- I just wanted to clarify this. Good luck!

Thank you for your review, @amosbastian! Keep up the good work!

Understood. They are aware of this project. I have been in regular communications with the OpenBazaar team, but I am not the project owner or really a part of their team. I guess we will have to go at it ourselves.

Thank you for the clarification.

We will make changes accordingly.

@swapsteem

Hello @amosbatian, the integration was proposed by @diggndeeper.com to the openbazaar team and they have accepted it, although we will have to integrate steem ourselves and create a PR to the original project. That makes it a completely different project from openbazaar.
I have seen that projects like EFTG have also used utopian for similar task requests and was supported by utopian-io.
Please let us know if you want any more information needed about this project and reconsider a second evaluation. Thank you!

@utopian-io, would you be able to comment on what @swapsteem says above here?

It's just the task request that won't be rewarded, however contributions made to Open Bazaar's project (or any other open source project around it) can still be rewarded via Utopian, of course.

Oh. That is interesting.

Please forgive me, I'm completely new to this. Does that mean if a developer responds to this (does the work), they could still be rewarded for their work on this project?

Yes. Basically if there is a minimum viable product that is open source, then it's valid. Of course it will still have to be reviewed by Utopian's moderators, and then after that it will either get rewarded or not.

Before you responded below, I asked knowledges on your help channel if there is a satisfactory way to get "permission" from OpenBazaar to work on this project, where we can still use Utopian?

I don't know if you can answer that as well. Just trying to make sure I don't leave options on the table.

Great stuff! Hope someone takes up this task to help you get going with @steemonob
I am adding 20 STEEM to the Bounty Pot.

Awesome! I appreciate that.

That would be interesting, if only I ever made anything in Golang or with blockchains...

There are still ways to help you if you have any interest. You are welcome to stop by the Discord and see what is happening -> https://discord.gg/EFA9Z7W

You can trade on the market, but you can't pay natively. They have what they call a multi-wallet:

https://openbazaar.org/blog/openbazaar-2.3-release-with-multiwallet/

With the 2.3 release OpenBazaar users are no longer forced to use a single cryptocurrency, but can buy, sell, send and receive multiple coins with the same wallet.

At the time of release there are four supported cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Zcash. Ethereum support is nearing completion and will be added soon, and other coins will be added later.

I know, this was a comment on the readme from github which sounds like if thiscwas a desired function as well.

Oh, I see. I'll go try to make that a little more clear. Thank you!
