How to install a PTF in the Z/os 2.1 – MAINFRAME
Hello Steemians, today i will show you how to install a PTF in the z/OS, mainframe Operating System:
What’s a PTF?
Program Temporary Fix
Source: https://searchdomino.techtarget.com
Steps to install it
You must have basic knowledge of: SMP, JCL, ISPF and FTP use, i invite you to read a little about it, i will write about all these topics soon.
Access SMP
In the option
- OS System Support Options
- SM SMP/E
Type in SMPCSI DATA SET : specify the name of the CSI that contains the global zone:
Check the PTF
To know if the pre-requisites are applied or if the PTF is applied.
In the option:
- 3 QUERY - Display SMPCSI information
- 2 CROSS-ZONE QUERY - Display status of an entry in all zones
Type the PTF.
The status observed in the query are:
- REC = Received , ready to apply
- APP = Applied, can be removed and reapplied
- ACP= they' re already permanent in the z/OS?
If the pre-requisites are applied, the installation continues.
2.- Use an FTP program to transmit the file to the Zos. I'll use FileZilla
1.- Download the PTF to your PC, in binary format.
2.- Transfer to z/OS in the same format.
Then in z/OS, it prepares JOBs, for Receive and Applied in the mainframe, are the two important steps:
JOB
The product suppliers always send you the JOB's or JCL's ready, you just have to customize them and run them.
A- Receive
B- Applied
To verify if the correct installation of the PTF, repeat the process of Verify the PTF and run the test JOBs you have.
