Actually, this is just the small fraction of what used to be kept in this valley as you can imagine, the locals no longer need the pigeon dung for fertiliser and so what remains of the population is kept for tourist reasons.
Some locals who continue to keep the pigeons insist that the Cappadocian fruits in this region have their succulent sweet taste because of the Pigeon fertiliser. Whether that's true or not, it is a sight to behold.
