He was an illustrious Venezuelan, doctor, professor and researcher of the central university of Venezuela. He was known in life as an educated teacher, also for his great heart and kindness. He was born in Isnotú - Trujillo, on October 26, 1864, and died in Caracas on June 29, 1919.

About his life is known that he was a prominent student, he graduated as a doctor in June 1888 at the Central University of Venezuela, and also studies in Paris thanks to a scholarship granted by the government that allowed him to travel with the aim of deepening knowledge in areas of medicine that by then were not well known in our country.

On his return from France he devoted himself to teaching, professional practice and religious practice. When Hernández returns from Europe, I take the opportunity to bring valuable medical equipment to the Vargas hospital, to which he owes the introduction of the microscope in Venezuela. He is considered the driving force and pioneer of true scientific and pedagogical teaching in Venezuela.

He was deeply Catholic, distinguished himself by being a man with unwavering faith, humility and simplicity, professional excellence and great love for God and neighbor, in solidarity with the most needy. His kindness was so great that many Latin Americans consider him a saint despite not being canonized by the Catholic Church. Nevertheless for the year 1986 it obtained that the Pope Juan Pablo II declared it "venerable".
