Victory Day ( 9 May)

in #victory6 years ago

Today is Victory Day - the 73rd anniversary of the surrender of Nazi Germany and thus the victory over fascism in Europe. I found this map from 1943 showing the scale of the Nazi onslaught as if it had been directed at the US instead of the Soviet Union. It's unbelievable that any country could recover from this, counter-attack, and march all the way to the enemy capital and win the war. But that's what the USSR did.

С Днем Победы! Eternal glory to the heroes!

Sort:

Russia did actually sacrifice a lot in this war and many other countries. It was a good depiction of importance of life. But, the sad part is that we hardly learnt anything from those bloodsheds and massacres. We are still cruel and full of hate :(

Operation Barbarossa ! Thanks to The resistance of Hellas(Greece) for about 3 months and the sacrifice of almost half of its population, the Nazis had to keep huge forces there. So when they conquered Hellas it was too late as the Russian winter was already there waiting for them !!!!
Glory to heroes !

It's too tragic that the Russians either died or were put into Communist prison for generations to tell their story to the world. It is unbelievable how much they suffered, but still prevailed.
