Supernal Chronicles #4

in #video6 years ago

Throughout the week I’m to make several of these posts, detailing the content I enjoy and what I gain from it. It’s necessary to share what we enjoy and I want to do that with all of you. If you’re looking for something new to experience and are curious of what other content creators I flock towards, then I hope these chronicles can be of benefit to you! Every 48 hours or so I’ll have a new post with links and thoughts on each video/music/artwork etc.

Sleep Over’s Forever

Ambient style music has been going through a renaissance over the past decade, most notably from the rise of Vaporwave and Lo-Fi. Within all of this there’s been some rare gems that pop up that are related to all of these interesting sub-genre’s of Electronica. Sleep Over is an interesting band, and what I like most about it is the ethereal, mystical and overly warming aesthetic the sound of their music imparts to my senses. It’s some amazingly beautiful stuff, and the female vocals is something I cherish a lot in this kind of music; artists like Grimes and Cocteau Twins have a similar vibe, with using female vocals and developing a mystical aesthetic to their sound. Give this music a shot and it’ll provide a joyous boon to your soul.

Shin Megami Tensei - Did You Know Gaming?

Did you know gaming is a great channel that covers a huge swath of video game history incorporating a variety of knowledge about each game or series. Shin Megami Tensei is a particularly old series, which the video covers pretty well. The game is known for being fairly brutal in its difficulty, but the many iterations fluctuate and pivot the mechanics making certain games much more approachable. Many people might know SMT from the popular Persona games, although I first encountered this series with the SMT: Imagine MMO game. I was still obsessively playing MMORPG’s and dove into this game head-first, enjoying the straight-forward leveling, demon catching and fusing mechanic. The higher levels began to get daunting so I stopped playing as it simply took too long to get anywhere, something that happens a lot in free to play games. Nonetheless, the game opened me up to the series as a whole and I eventually grabbed a copy of the Strange Journey game. SMT Strange Journey has a really interesting plot, but ends up being quite brutal with its boss battles and dungeon layouts. I appreciate this series of games a lot for it’s use of esoteric characters that you can form a party with, similar to Digimon or Pokemon, and then battle through dungeons and defeat villainous antagonists. If you’re looking for a new RPG game check out some of the games and give it a whirl.

Future Sound of London - Accelerator

Back in the 90’s the newest most ‘hot’ and ‘in’ thing to be a part of was the house, trance and dance music scene that was exploding all over the world. FSL, or FSOL, is famous for it’s Papua New Guinea single that has one of the most iconic and elegant vocal samples in all of dance music. I’ve not before listened to this album until now, and the whole thing is worth a listen. It’s not as powerful as Hard House, Gabber or Hardcore, but it still maintains a slick groove and harmonizing sounds that give your body & mind a nice energetic hug.

Rage 2

Some folks might remember the first Rage game and how much of a disappointment it ended up being. Later on we’d discover that the game falled flat due to technical limitations caused by hardware and new technology the game was using for the first time. It makes sense why the game didn’t pan out well, but the theme and aesthetic was welcoming as the whole fps scene was stagnating. I’m glad iD software and Bethesda created a second game, and it looks pretty decent from the trailer. A new FPS to enjoy for a period of time is something I’d like to experience, and Bethesda’s last FPS game, Doom, turned out pretty well so I can imagine Rage 2 will be pretty good. As usual with most games, technical issues will often cause a lot of people to drop the game and if the game has too little content and no form of multiplayer then it’s life will be short. ID software created Doom and Quake so anything with their name on it is good to see, so I hope it turns out well!

Langrisser Intro Collection

As if I haven’t talked about video games enough in this post, well relax folks this one is worth it. Langrisser is a tactical RPG series that goes as far back as Shin Megami Tensei. If you know anything about Advanced Wars or Fire Emblem, maybe even Valkyrie Chronicles, then you’ll understand how this game plays. What stands out to me about this series is the plot, character designs and intro animations. Many japanese games back in the day would have a really high quality intro animation that would rival a lot of anime series at the time. Langrisser is certainly hitting all the notes correctly here, and the art is what makes it shine. Satoshi Urushihara is the man behind the awesome art, and also worked on the Growlanser games, and other various manga and OVA’s. His style is the height of the 80’s masterful use of well-rendered compositions, giving the manga an anime a seriously high-level vibe that has lasted since. I’m influenced by this man’s designs quite a bit and I think every artist could benefit from learning from his artwork. It truly speaks for itself.

Blin Cat

Memes often transcend our notion of reality, and blin cat is a great example of this. This video speaks towards a great narrative of interpreting an image with respect to emotion; how exactly is this cat feeling and what is he trying to say? You might not often look at certain memes in a philosophical context, but when you do these seemingly simple things become entrancingly beautiful. Seriously, give this a listen, or I guess a ‘read’ since the guy is russian/polish and there’s subtitles to compensate, it’s pretty short and will honestly brighten your day.

Beginners Guide to Fermenting Foods

Over the past several years I’ve come to a complete understanding of how best to manage ones health, with respect to eating certain foods and especially food that has a seriously positive impact. Fermented foods like Sauerkraut, kimchi and sriracha, as the man talks about in the video, are quite good to have every day. I’m glad I found this guy’s channel, he has a lot of videos that deserve praise and respect. I hope to one-day be able to make some custom sauerkraut and sriracha, and anyone who has been experiencing stomach difficulties should look into eating these foods. From the looks of it, it’s fairly easy to make these foods but requires some careful and patient preparation and some extra room to store. Your physical health is extremely important, as the body feeds back into the mind and the mind back into the body; so if your body is doing well, your mind will do well.

Laser Saber VR - DrDisrespect Gillette song

Anyone who watches Twitch TV ought to know about DrDisrespect at this point. He’s made a big splash in the streaming scene and is honestly very entertaining. It’s great to see more and more personalities grow on twitch, so it’s no surprise seeing his influence spill over into other places. This VR game legit looks pretty great, and I’m no sucker for Star Wars memes but the mechanism is intriguing. Many music-based games have come and gone, but for the VR-era this game is spot on.

Elon Musk, Tesla Shareholder Meeting

I’m a big fan of Elon Musk with everything he’s doing, as he’s genuinely trying to make the world a better place and not just sell another product. Listening to this meeting gives perspective on how well the company is doing, and things are looking up. Tricky paths lie in wait for Elon, but he’s come this far and his goals stretch so deep that nothing seems to stop his momentum. Solar energy, autonomous driving, electric cars, re-usable rockets, building underground highways and cities, there’s so much on Elon’s plate and I want a piece of each. When I hear more news about these efforts, it really invigorates my hope for the future. Every year more solar panels will get installed, more electric cars on the road, and when combined with the crypto space and other technological advancements the future is practically blinding me with its radiance. We should all be hopeful for what’s to come and get excited for it!

5 Basic Cooking Skills - Gordon Ramsay

Some folks might be a tad afraid to cook food, especially if they’ve not done a good job in the past. This video will help establish some basic skills, but more so than that I suggest you watch and listen to more of gordon ramsay. Gordon has a lot of cooking videos on youtube, along with loads of other chefs like Ainsley Harriot, and the value this brings is allowing you to further understand how to cook certain foods. It’s not about cooking a specific meal, its more about understanding how certain foods can be cooked and the way you develop flavor. I really enjoy cooking and do so every day, and let me tell you it’s really easy once you get into the habit and it becomes much better than eating out.

you bet! which game you thinking about? i'm glad my post brought you some joy :)

MMORPG'S. The way you discribe the difficulty level of the game make it known to me that the game will be a intresting one.

ah yea, Bless online is new and is fairly decent. I enjoyed Black Desert when it came out, and it's quite cheap. Elder Scrolls online really isn't too bad either, though I've not played it. I mostly play Path of Exile or a handful of other rpg's

Aside from Elon Musk's mug the entire post was very cool.
I am interested into one sort of the game type.
Something like the Spores, but less complex?
Do you know any game like that?

Spore is a pretty unique game, but it falls into the 4X category. Endless Space is really good, there's two games too and i've played both. You can get it on Steam :)

Nice collection of videos

Very interesting game.
