Tech Legacy - Beta Max vs VHS (Part 2)

in #video6 years ago

Most of the technologies that we have used in the past have been made obsolete by newer and more advanced technology that we use today.

Advances in their design went hand in hand with advances in technology in this digital era, with many large products being redesigned and miniaturized into amazingly small sizes.

While it seems incredibly funny that the technologies I intend to discuss in this series were considered extremely cutting-edge, we should not discount each of these technologies contribution towards all of the technology that wouldn’t exist today if they hadn't been invented and adopted.

When it came to recording video there were two choices back in the day which the flash drive or blueray dvd or streaming netflix has made obsolete in the present.

Betamax was developed by Sony in 1975, a year before the ultimately more popular VHS format was invented as a response to Sony’s attempt to control the format of the industry.

Fortunately the VHS tape was Invented by JVC, and became the predominant video format by the 1980’s, despite what some argued was the technical superiority of the Betamax format. I don't like monopolies and neither did the masses when it came to VHS adoption.

Thankfully we have better options when it comes to recording video in the modern day! But just imagine where we would be if these technologies had never been invented in the first place!
