My experience in a Medieval VIKING museum

in #vikings6 years ago (edited)

Hola my dear steemians!

Some days ago I had a fast tour of Bryggens Museum in Bergen, Norway. The experience was amazing and I definitely want to share it with you. The exhibition really helped me to get a bigger insight of the medieval ages in Scandinavia, a period when Viking age transitioned into feudality.

The history of this museum started in July 1955 when a disastrous fire destroyed nearly half of the ancient district knows as Bryggen (the heart area of the Bergen City). Following the fire an archaeological excavations was initiated on the site bringing light to many unexpected and important discoveries.

The most important discovery resulted in a higher understanding of runic writing. The longest inscriptions appear on wooden sticks that people called them runakefli.

These inscriptions had very interesting messages, mostly about trade and commerce. But, unfortunately, many of the sticks were damaged or intentionally destroyed in the past.

There was also a number of other objects uncovered, providing an insight into commerce, shipping, handicrafts and everyday life during the Medieval Period.

Pero qué vida la suya, de un museo a otro <3 está muy padre. Lástima que la mayor parte se haya quemado :( Abrazo psicológico :)

Nice article @lamexicana, I wonder how they realized those ancient coins where fake?

Good question @frendly-fenix I will ask next time! Thanks for reply 🙂
