CUTTING THE CORD - no more Land Line Telephone

We 'Cut the Cord' - we switched our home phone from land land to VOIP, (Voice Over Internet Protocol) and we're not going back.

Costs and Benefits

Our phone service comes thru the internet at no extra cost - a savings of over $30 a month :)

No special phones needed and we kept the same phone number.

Quality of Service

At first the call quality was poor - conversations echoed or worse, there were dropped words, dead spots.

We worked with our provider and they tested everything. They sent us a new box - and - now you can't tell that we are not on a land line. The call quality is excellent.

Bottom Line - It works great and saves us money every month too!

thanks @five34a4b. next cord cutter I'm working on is the Cable TV cord.

Have Netflix, love it.

then tried an android box and Kodi but not all that comfortable with it.

Several family members have Roku so I got one last week. now I'm working thru picking and installing channels.

will do a write up about that trip in a couple of weeks.

thanks again, comments are always welcome here.

Love it! I very much dislike the big cable companies. I don't have any of that stuff, just the internet.

This was done a decade ago in our home. We went to cell only and never looked back. These days we have a free cell phone plan from FreedomPop as an extra phone for around the house. It has no monthly costs for very basic service, but way more then we need for around the house.

Our home phone bill was running a little over $40 a month, just about $500 a year, after all the taxes. Not only do I not miss the home phone, I really don't miss giving our politicians more money to misuse or flat out steal.

thanks for the Reply @thedarkhorse. The cell phone is the best way to go for sure.

We have 4 cell phones in the house already and soon to be 5 - big house, big family - grandpa and grandma, daughter and 3 teenage grandchildren.

We needed one common shared phone number + 5 handsets to have phone access to that number anywhere in the house, so we went VOIP and love the savings and the service.

and grandma isn't a cell phone fan.

For sure with that many people in the house VOIP is a great option. If you just need to reach someone at the house and don't care who it works out perfect.
