Some Thoughts On the Way We VOTE ??!!

Voting Needs Better Options

Here, in this "democracy" we have a strange concept of voting. (Yes, The US is supposed to be a constitutional republic)
We actually believe if 51% of the people agree with something, that the other 49% should be forced, even at gun point, to follow along.

Tyranny of the majority has not only become a thing, now even the losers are indoctrinated into just accepting it.

In the last The US election many people stated that we should do away with the electoral college. They said it was ok that the group of people in the fly-over states vote's would no longer count.

People's votes shouldn't count??!!

Well, so long democracy, hello tyranny

...but, was there ever really a democracy, or was it just the budding form of tyranny?

The one person, one vote paradigm that we hold to so dearly, is actually abhorrent to nature.

Lets say you had one auto mechanic and four other (non-mechanically inclined) people in a car stranded on the side of the road. Should they vote on how to fix the broken car? Should 51% of the people decide that changing a tire is the best course of action? No. That would be silly. We have one person who's "vote" counts, and four others who's vote doesn't matter. That is, if they want the car to be repaired.

There are many things that most people are not qualified to vote on. Many such cases as the car repair example. However, we can even include voting on monetary policy. 97% of the population don't have any financial education or economics knowledge. So, are they qualified to even cast a vote for a tax reform bill?

And what if we started voting for the laws of physics? There are laws, that we must follow, today, that go against the laws of physics. Nuclear fission power plants could be 1000% safer, but they can't be, because of old laws and regulations. Hospitals can't be built where they're need to be because of inane anti-competition laws. Many laws require you to do things unsafely... because that was the best they could think of back then?

All in all, we have accepted a bad precedent for enacting laws. People who don't know what they are talking about, people who have ulterior motives, and people who are just plain mischievous are allowed to have their votes count.

But, still we say, everyone's vote needs to count.

What we really need is a completely different paradigm.
There are different kinds of votes, and different classifications of voting.

One example of a different paradigm would be, that along with your 1040 tax return, you also fill out a form of where your tax dollars will go. Every dollar that you send to the government is a vote. And each dollar is a vote for which departments continue to exist.

In such a system, if a department does not get minimum funding, it is abolished. Thus, the tax payers have direct control over where their money goes, AND, the voting is continuous. So, a vote cast 100 years ago to form an Agency, does not matter today. If the agency has stopped doing its job, or its job is no longer necessary, it is easily gotten rid of. We are no longer sitting, waiting for congress to do what it was supposed to do decades ago.

Another paradigm shift is in voting over criminal laws. There shouldn't be 51%. Laws that govern our actions should be passed by 90% plus. If 90% of the people agree that something should be a law (no raping, no murdering...) than it is a law whether we vote on it or not. It is just, now, put down on paper with applicable punishments. Further, any "laws" that are not passed by 90% of the people aren't really laws. They are just things that the govern-cement can use to harass people.

There are many, forgotten, old ways that should be looked into.
Such as with many native american tribes. Voting to go to war was done by the men who would be going to war. Those who weren't going to war didn't have a say.

There was also the right to quit. When the tribes of Israel fell under a brutal dictator, they quit. The said, we will not be a part of this.

In the future, we need to discuss, and enact plans for voting that actually reflect the people's desires.

Block-chain voting will be one great step to insure who voted and which way they voted. Ensuring there is no voter fraud.

But, more importantly, we will have to create methods of voting where only the affected vote and only the knowledgeable vote.

And it may be something radically different, such as a message board, where all those who should vote have access and talk and talk and talk until they all come to a singular conclusion. Where, there is no "voting" per say, but what happens is that everyone's voice is heard, and the best solution naturally rises to the top.
