Is there such a thing as THE FASTEST VPN?

in #vpn5 years ago

I am frequently writing about VPN providers and I love testing the download speeds of the different VPN providers. As you visit the websites of different VPN providers, you will often see them boasting in awards such as "The fastest VPN provider", "The best VPN provider", and other titles. But, is there really such a thing as the fastest VPN provider?

Before you purchase a VPN subscription, it is very important to know why you actually want to buy the VPN subscription. Maybe you want to sign up and use a very fast VPN provider which will make you able to surf securely online, while watching videos, using a Torrent application, and while doing VoIP calls with video to people all around the globe. As you know, speed is of the essence, and that is why you search Google for information about the fastest and the best VPN on the market. But, then comes my question - is there such a thing as a VPN provider that is faster than everyone else?

Which is the fastest VPN provider?

When you read about different VPN providers in the IP Address Guide, or maybe visit our website to read about our different VPN speed tests, you will often notice that some providers are more favored than others. But, we still wouldn't dare to call any single VPN provider for the fastest VPN provider on the market. There are way too many things that will influence this, and here are some of the reasons.

  • The fact that a VPN provider has great download speeds in one nation will never guarantee you that they have good download speeds in another nation.
  • Even if you get a good download speed once, doesn't guarantee you a good download speed the next time. And, if I really say that a certain VPN provider is fantastic and super-quick, everyone will sign up for their service, causing their servers to receive a heavy load, which often will result in their download speeds going down. As a consequence, their VPN service is no longer the fastest.
  • The VPN download speeds may vary a lot between certain times of the day. During daytime, things might be quicker, but in the evening, when everyone uses a VPN to stream online content, the speeds of certain servers might slow down a whole lot.

These are just some of the reasons why it is hard to call a certain VPN provider the fastest VPN provider. But, it doesn't mean that all VPN providers are the same. Based on many of our VPN speed tests, there are certain patterns worth noticing, which all point in a certain direction.

  • We often see the same providers return to the top three on all our VPN provider speed tests. This is a great testimony of their services, and it should give you a nod that this is most likely a fast VPN provider.
  • Other VPN providers constantly end up among the slowest VPN providers. There might be some exceptions, but if a VPN provider normally ends up among the slowest VPN providers in such tests, it might be a pattern and should be avoided (if speed is of the essence).

But, most importantly - if you want to use a VPN provider in a certain country, make sure to check whether or not the VPN provider has good speeds in that given country. It might be that ExpressVPN has the best download speeds in Germany, but if you want to connect to their servers in China, then who cares? So, it is always a good advice to look for speed tests of different VPN providers for the country you are especially interested in.

One more piece of advice - Speed isn't everything!

Just one more piece of advice... speed isn't everything! At least not if your goal is to unblock streaming services. Maybe you have found an amazing VPN provider with exceptional download speeds in Canada. But, who cares about exceptional download speeds if you cannot stream Canadian Netflix, CBS or other streaming services or TV networks in Canada using the service.

In other words, you need to do some great investigative work before purchasing a VPN. Or, you can just sign up for the service, and use the refund policies of the different VPN providers if you do not like the service that you get.

This was just a few tips if you are in for buying a VPN subscription! If you have comments, questions, or an experience you want to share, please write a comment!
