The driving force of corruption.

Hello good people on Steemit. The recent happenings in Ghana as a result of the video documentary by ace investigative journalist Anas_Aremeyaw_Anas has got me thinking about what had led those captured on the video footage to acts they did. Let's bear in mind, it didn't take them an over night to start the act they engaged in. Though they are going shame and humiliation of all sort, it will be prudent that we dig deep to the root cause of corruption so we can guard ourselves from such acts bearing in mind the consequences of our actions or the consequences of corruption. This knowledge about what leads to corruption is what I termed the driving force of corruption.

To begin with, some of the causes are so minute that it is not considered as a corrupt act or practice. This is the underlying factor behind the fact that most people engage in corrupt practices with little knowledge to that effect.

Started at a younger age.

There a category of people who started dealing with corruption at a younger age. They're those who will for example pay something to get what is rightfully theirs or better still take something before they perform their responsibility. They usually demand gifts before performing house hold chores and little assignments. Because they've started at an early stage it becomes a norm. They don't see anything wrong with what they do. After all it is now part of them.
If we belong to this category of people, we should remember that our actions is affecting the society negatively and when light is shone on us the shame and humiliation as well as the disgrace will be enormous. Therefore we should stop it while we can.

Everyone is doing it

This category of people are those that find themselves in corrupt organisations where almost everyone bathing in corrupt acts except a few. It gets to a appoint where the few thinks if they don't also do same they are fools. They are forced to compromise their stand because they feel the others are cheating them and their positive stand cannot make a difference.

My advice such persons is, their stand due count if we need a change. They not compromise their values and follow the masses. The fight against corruption begins with them.

I just did my friend a favour

This category of people deem it a pleasure to do their friends a favour forgetting they are entrusted with public position to serve the public and not friends. They are ever ready to perform favours to their friends at the expense of the reasons why the hold such office.
My advice to these category is the world is watching and one day you could be caught.

Wrong name for the wrong act

This group of people engage in corrupt acts but give it a sweet name so they are not seen being guilty. The name they usually give it is GIFT.
To this people I will say be contempt with whatever you earn, and don't look forward for gifts before you perform your duty. Gifts have the tendency to influence your decision and this is the beginning of corruption.

No one sees me

This people think they are the only persons in their office of wherever they practice their corrupt acts.
To them, you might not no know whom you are dealing with so be honest and transparent in all your dealings. Just as the officials caught in the video taking all kinds bribe. They never knew who they were dealing with. They only got to know when their images is in public domain.

Conclusion

If we want to fight corruption and stop the menace, it starts with us because the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility. It takes two to have the act of corruption take place. So let's all gang against it. This way we will be building a very friendly environment.
