20 and 10 Years Since the Strong Typhoon Struck Our Province

It is 2018, and it reminded me that two strong typhoons struck our place 20 and 10 years ago. Rewinding to 1998, and I was 14 then, when I first experienced this strong storm. I never expected such wind strength because I had never seen it before. We already had a week of strong rains which already flooded some places in our town. However, that night of third Friday of September, strong winds was felt at 11pm. It stopped for a bit, but when the winds came back, it's stronger than ever. Flood is already knee-deep. We transferred to the house of my cousin where we felt safe. Gladly, our house was not destroyed other than one roof flown by the wind. Many trees were uprooted, houses with no roofs, huts overturned, so much havoc. We had no electricity for about a month. The typhoon left some trauma that I even get scared whenever strong winds happen.

Ten years ago, in 2008, similar typhoon unexpectedly struck our province again. Strong winds was felt in the afternoon, but we just though it's normal. Besides, PAGASA did not provide any forecast that time similar to what happened in 1998. However, about 5pm, winds became stronger. It's scary. I went to the safer room because I'm nervous hearing the winds. It stopped for a bit, and we had our dinner. After that, the winds came back even stronger. Very similar to what happened back in 1998. It's a scary experience and such typhoons created trauma.

Ten and twenty years had passed, there's still that fear that such typhoon might happen again. Hopefully not. But the force of nature is unstoppable, due to the fact that the earth was abused by greedy humans.
