Simple tips on how to set up your own website or blogsite

in #webdesign5 years ago

This is a very basic explanation on the concept of how a website works and what you need to get started

Now I am not here to make loads of publicity about my own site but to share some tips on how set up a website of your own and what you need to understand to do this.

Now if you would set up a brick and mortar business you need a space to do that and that is what we need online as well.
So instead of renting a shop we will rent a space on a server that hosts our website. So instead of paying rent you pay a regular hosting fee with a server or hosting company.
Once you have set up your hosting you need a sign that tells people your shop is there. So basically the server hosts your site like a landlord you pay rent to and a domain name helps people find it like having an address in the phone book.

This is the domain name. Now this is an exiting but also daunting task because this will be what your website is called and in a sense be your calling card. So keep it as short and to the point as possible. The only issue here is that there are already more than 340 million registered domain names out there. So go to a domain name registrar and there you can experiment with different names and extensions.

www.yourdomain.com the domain name is the "yourdomain" the extension is the ".com". You are free to use whatever for the domain name and there are also loads of different extensions available.

  • If you have started blogging on Steem and you really enjoy this then it might be an option to start your own small website and host a blog that can not only be visible for the people on Steem but also for the people outside the space.
  • If you are a regular blogger it might also make sense to link your blog to the Steem blockchain in order to get some potential extra rewards in this digital currency called Steem end because of the SEO backlinking and optimisation (more on that in a later blog so make sure to follow me)

some useful website building tools:

the most popular website builder (especially for blogs) is Wordpress
and then the most popular domain name finder would be Godaddy

These are the most used out there and are also easy to use. There are website builders out there that are easier like wix.com but in my opinion Wordpress offers a bit more flexibility when you do want something a bit more your own and there is enough content on google and youtube on how to build a simple Wordpress site.
