Liverpool: The road to Kiev 2018

Dear Friends!

I have not really posted much about myself on here but there is one thing which I would like to "reveal", as you might have guessed, I am a massive Liverpool Fan!

Today, I am just reminiscing on the way the current Liverpool team made it to the Champion's League final in Kiev and how they got there. I remember at the start of the season, I told myself that I would be happy if they just even made it to the top 4 or last 8. If you think back, they even had to get into the main competition via the Playoffs.

Play-off
Aug 15 - Hoffenheim 1 Liverpool 2
Aug 23 - Liverpool 4 Hoffenheim 2
Liverpool win 6-3 on aggregate

Liverpool then went into the group stages along with Sevilla, Spartak Moscow and Maribor. When the group stages were drawn out, I must admit I was so happy that we got the "easy" group. We MUST go through right? But we got off to a stale start with 2 draws, I was worried we would end up losing to the "smaller" teams in Europe just like how we do Domestically.. Oh boy... And then the super 7-0 win over Maribor came and that just lifted the spirits up! Back to back wins over them gave us the much needed points in the group but stubborn Sevilla still showed their class by hanging on to another draw. And lighting struck twice with us winning 7-0 again this time against Spartak Moscow!

Here are the results for the Group Stages:

Group Stage
Sep 13 - Liverpool 2 Sevilla 2
Sep 26 - Spartak Moscow 1 Liverpool 1
Oct 17 - Maribor 0 Liverpool 7
Nov 1 - Liverpool 3 Maribor 0
Nov 21 - Sevilla 3 Liverpool 3
Dec 6 - Liverpool 7 Spartak Moscow 0

Triumphantly we moved on to the Last 16 and in this knockout stage, we ended up with Porto! Personally, I have seen how Porto can rise to the occasion and really pull off a stunner. I was worried going into the first round but was happy that we were playing away first so that means we could salvage something back at Anfield if anything were to happen. Lo and behold, we won with such class and style 5-0 away and did not even need to worry about the return leg.

Last 16
Feb 14 - Porto 0 Liverpool 5
Mar 6 - Liverpool 0 Porto 0
Liverpool win 5-0 on aggregate

And then the ever so faithful Quarter Finals came and who else but Man City were drawn to be our opponents. I remember telling my mates that we have a chance as we have beaten them in the League with some style and class but can we do it again? Surely they would have learned how to control us by now and also there is that feeling of revenge to get back on us for the earlier defeat - they are also basically the "best" team in the country by a mile from their dominance in the English Premier League.. Can we beat them? Oh YES!!!

Quarter-final
Apr 4 - Liverpool 3 Manchester City 0
Apr 10 - Mancester City 1 Liverpool 2
Liverpool win 5-1 on aggregate

Now obviously the main man the super sensation and the PFA Player of the Year is our Mo Salah! And just like a fairy tale romance, we HAD to draw Roma as our Semi-final opponents. They also didn't make it easy for themselves and had to pull of a miracle of their own to knock out Barcelona! Who knew what was installed for us when the draw came out and I remembering being contented if either us or Roma going through to the finals as both really went through shockers of the run in the Champions League just to get there - But when we went 5-2 at the first leg, Whoo-hoo! I was just so happy to have that first leg lead. BUT Roma still had something else up their sleeves and they really stunned us 4-2 on the return leg. We almost, just almost didn't make it. Yes penalties would have been involved but still - imagine the psychological stress!

Semi-final
Apr 24 - Liverpool 5 Roma 2
May 2 - Roma 4 Liverpool 2
Liverpool win 7-6 on aggregate

And that brings us to now...

I wonder what the outcome will be..

Who will be the 2018 Champions League winner?

I hope it will be Liverpool! But we will wait and see on the 26 May 2018.

Nice to see some Liverpool FC blogs on here, I've just posted my own today. Hope to read more in due course!

I hope our reds have a magical night where the best trident of Europe (Mo, Bobby and Sadio) can score, where Hendo can lead the orchestra in midfield in the best Stevie G style, where Virgil and Dejan become an impenetrable wall and Loris extinguishes all the fire!
