EDRADOUR CALEDONIA 12 YEARS

The Story

As a whisky lover Edradour is a must known because it is the smallest of the Scottish distilleries. For the production of their unmistakable Malts procedures are used that are already a thing of the past at other distilleries. The first records of active burning on the grounds of the Edradour distillery date back to 1823 - at that time the burning was still illegal. In 1825 the distillery was legally registered under the name Glenforres Distillery. The current name Edradour was created in 1837 by the tenants James Scott and Duncan Stewart and means something like "between two rivers".

The particularly powerful Sherry flavor comes from its 42-month-long finishing phase. The whisky had enough time to extract the intense aromas from the exclusive Oloroso sherry casks.

The Caledonia was named after the song of the same name by the famous Scottish musician Dougie MacLean. Andrew Symington, the owner of Edradour, and Dougie MacLean co-designed this whiskey.

Edradour muss man als Whisky Liebhaber kennen, denn sie ist die kleinste der schottischen Brennereien. Bei der Produktion ihres unverkennbaren Malts wird noch mit Verfahren gearbeitet, die bei anderen Brennereien schon längst der Vergangenheit angehören. Die ersten Aufzeichnungen über das aktive Brennen auf dem Gelände der Brennerei Edradour stammen aus dem Jahr 1823 - in dieser Zeit war das Brennen noch illegal. 1825 wurde die Brennerei unter dem Name Glenforres Distillery legal registriert. Der heutige Name Edradour entstand 1837 durch die Mieter James Scott und Duncan Stewart und bedeutet soviel wie "zwischen zwei Flüssen".

Die besonders kräftige Sherrynoten stammen aus seiner 42 Monate langen Finishing-Phase. dadurch hatte er genug Zeit, die intensiven Aromen aus den exklusiven Oloroso-Sherryfässern zu ziehen.

Der Caledonia wurde nach dem gleichnamigen Song des bekannten schottischen Musikers Dougie MacLean benannt. Andrew Symington, der Eigentümer von Edradour, und Dougie MacLean haben diesen Whisky gemeinsam entworfen.

Flower of Scotland

The song is one of the three unofficial national anthems of Scotland (official national anthem is: God Save the Queen) and tells about the fight of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce against the English King Edward II.
The "Flower of Scotland" here means the youth of Scotland and thus those who fought for Scotland in the prime of their youth and partly died for Scotland.

Das Lied ist eine der drei inoffiziellen Nationalhymnen von Schottland (offizielle Nationalhymne ist: God Save the Queen) und handelt vom Kampf von William Wallace und Robert the Bruce gegen den englischen König Edward II.
Mit der "Blüte Schottlands" ist hier die Jugend Schottlands gemeint und damit jene, die in der Blüte ihrer Jugend für Schottland gekämpft haben und zum Teil auch für Schottland gefallen sind.
