We all know that social media and analytic firms track our every movement online, but did you know that there are newcomers to the "watching your every click" market? Well the answer is: yes.

The biggest of these newcomers is a firm called Soarunson Co. that's made waves on the tech beat with a website called DailyWatch. It features a free app that monitors your browser activity, provides a summary report on your browser, sends analytics to your social media and personal profiles for the company, and alerts you to new websites.

Sorenson's new app, which launched Wednesday, is still in beta status – its early version only tracks Internet activity – but it looks like this will be the platform that's going to deliver the most comprehensive and comprehensive piece of information people will see.

Sorenson calls its service a "digital footprint." It's essentially a detailed, interactive map of users and what they do online, with personal profiles and pages you can't access from the home screen showing up on devices. That information is collected by Sorenson's software through cookies on your browser and saved locally.

The app's design is simple enough. It's just one large image in a window in the corner of each screen that highlights what's up.

Companies of all shapes and sizes have decided it is their right to spy on you. They watch what you click, track what you see, and guess how you feel. This is a complete invasion of basic human privacy.

How does this all compare with the surveillance that the NSA conducts on us with the mass-surveillance we're supposed to give up on so much for? This isn't exactly analogous, but it still illustrates how important an increase in the balance of power between corporations and our governments is in a modern society and how crucial to our security and prosperity it is. And how dangerous that balance of power is in an age of unchecked consumerism.

The NSA could have suffered greatly thanks to Edward Snowden, but we the people choose to ignore and move on and forget.

I fear this is a mistake that will haunt us until our digital deaths. All I know is that I can't wait for the day I can go online and feel normal again.
